The (Longview) Daily News reports a Winlock woman who uses medical marijuana for pain management claims her teenage daughter’s brain cancer has been cured with cannabis.
News reporter Lyxan Toledanes writes that 15-year-old Taylor Rehmeyer, diagnosed at age 6 with a rare brain tumor, over the years has been treated with something called proton radiation at a center in Philadelphia and been treated at Seattle Children’s Hospital, but sometime after last August, turned to marijuana oil, an alternative and controversial treatment illegal in most states and not regulated.
The news article doesn’t mention what doctor, if any, is treating the girl, but notes that her mother, Karen Owen, says she will need to take a small dose daily for the rest of her life.

this is Taylor’s mother Karen owen. I’m going to settle this and tell you guys to fax my daughter had two surgeries she had 30 rounds of proton radiation one year after radiation her tumor started growing for the 4th time. They had no more treatment for her she was inoperable and there’s no chemo and no radiation that works on this child’s to marks she was basically and left to die. The only thing that has ever gotten rid of this tumor in 9 years completely is cannabis oil and my daughter is alive and well because of it and if you’re too stupid and ignorant to listen to the truth and possibly save someone you love then I pity you I have all the facts and I’m a mother who SAT here and watch the medical science tear my daughter apart and leave her to die at the age of 13 so don’t you dare tell me that cannabis was not the full cure for my daughter she was receiving no other treatment and her tumor had started growing because radiation failed her.
I am NOT a marijuana smoker for life I am a recent patient and when I found out cannabis could save my daughter and there were no other choices I spoke to my family and I used it for her and yes it saved her life pure and simple I’d like to know what therapy anybody thinks helped my daughter because none of it did anything except and damaged her brain further and leave a tumor growing in her head

My daughter had no more options in Hercules growing she was going to die. If any of you ignorant people would take the time to research this and spend that energy on spreading the news and saving lives we could make this world a better place. NHI which is the nations standards for healthcare clearly states on their website that cannabis cures brain tumors. We battled for almost 9 years and we tried western philosaphy and it failed my daughter terribly leaving her brain damaged and terrorized.
My daughter had to go through two brain crippling surgeries leaving her with vision loss and audio distortion and amultitude of cognitive function issues 30 rounds of radiation I did the researching it was easy to find all the information I really do wish that people would take the time to do their own research instead of arguing with people who have done it and know for a fact that cannabis cures cancer. It is my life’s work now and I’ve been fortunate enough to live in the state of Washington where we have the knowledge we have the proof and we have the documentation of the cannabis cures.

to 10,000 dollars for the medicine he was taking a month did not help him.!!!! in my honest opinion 200 dollars worth of marijuana in tea or brownies would’ve gave him it appetite pharmaceutical medicine is not always the way to goand cannabis healing has been around for 5000 years the Chinese used it way before we did.the Chinese use cannabis to heal opium to get highwhich is just the opposite of the

OK I had to look it up and I was wrong. Prescription THC has not been around for 30+ years. It’s been around since 1985. Trade name Nabilone and Dronabinol were cleared for use in 1985 followed in later years with Sativex and several others. And, since you asked, Doctors have been recommending milk, dairy products and other common foods like cranberries for longer than I have been alive.
I guess some people are easily swept into a state of hysterics when comes to defending their drug habits.
Again, I’m very thankful the girl I’d in remission. But if you’re looking for that miracle cure, pot ain’t it.
Hey Dum Dum, when was the last time an MD gave a recommendation or prescription for milk? Furthermore, show me a scientific study where milk actually HELPED save a person’s life from cancer.

I think the point was that cannabis was only PART of the girl’s treatment, but is being given ALL the credit for the cure. That is not logical and does not “prove” that cannabis cures cancer. The same as saying – well she drank milk every single day and LOOKY!! She is CURED of cancer! Milk cures cancer. Correlation is not causation.
And it’s only been legal through a MD’s recommendation for only 16 years in Washington State.
Cannabis WAS part of the medical treatment dummy.
It’s been availabile for both university and pharmacist study and by prescription from a Doctor for more than 30+ years. Nothing new here.
That the child’s cancer is in remission is great. That pot was the cure and not the medical treatment they received, is very far from proven.
I like the idea that with legalization maybe it will be made a Schedule II drug so that doctors can prescribe it. That will kill the medical marijuana industry – but why are people self-medicating? If the medical problem is dire enough to require medication, doctors should be able to prescribe AND MONITOR that medication. No one should be “self-dosing” or deciding their own frequency of dose or strength of dose or prescription duration. That is why doctors and pharmacists attend eight years of college. Change the schedule and it can be a “real” medicine and not just a snake oil that cures everything.
At least with the legalization universities and medial centers can start using it for research purposes. Before they would have been in violation of the law. The true medical benefits can still be found out.
My hat goes off to this mother. As a mother I have a child with a seriuos health issue, and there is nothing that I wouldn’t do for my Children. From what I read of this article her daughter has been battling this tumor for quite some time. I can only imagine the many different lab made medications she has been on, not to mention the horrible and unkind side effects of some of those medicines. So I ask why not… what difference does it make if she treats her daughter with pharmacy medicine or another alternative method? Just like smoking, drinking, taking pain pill after sugery or with an injury, anything can be abused. Marijuana is no different. This mother is treating her child with a medicine that’s all.
Morphine makes surgery safe and comfortable. It is a true miracle drug. It has saved COUNTLESS lives… countless! Yet it’s street counterpart – heroin – is one of the most deadly and addicting drugs known to man.
Whether a drug is a medicine or not does not change its addictive nature nor its propensity for misuse. Why is this so hard for those who use marijuana to fathom? Perhaps the loss of those eight IQ points is the problem.
No, Shane, what I meant is that there shouldn’t be different standards for different drugs depending on whether you approve of some while disapproving of others. There are drugs like heroin I’d never want to see legalized, but to me it all comes down to “knowing your limitations” (to paraphrase Clint Eastwood), harming nobody beyond yourself and taking personal responsibility when things go wrong…and they usually will at some time.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that marijuana has killed no one ever, but I take some self-styled “drug warriors” like Bill O’Reilly with a grain of salt. If you want to ban certain substances because of their health risk, then stop cherry-picking and be consistent by calling for a ban on ALL substances that can cause harm. Railing against potheads between swigs of your sixth beer or drags off your tenth cigarette doesn’t impress me much.
I’m more of a self-styled “moderation warrior” in favor of limited (if any) use of any substance that can hurt you if you overdo it while expecting those who DO harm themselves or others to take full responsibility for the consequences of their own actions.

I’m willing to bet I can find people who would disagree with you that marijuana has killed no one. They would be people who lost loved ones who were killed by marijuana DUIs or all the hundreds of thousands of parents who’s kids moved on to harder drugs after starting with pot and ended up overdosed.
To say drug use has no victims is hardly honest or realistic.
The criminals involved in law enforcement hate to admit that marijuana is safe and has been used for thousands of years by mankind. Marijuana is far safer than alcohol or legal prescription pain pills. Budweiser donates money to eradicate marijuana to local police departments all across the nation.
