The (Longview) Daily News writes once again yesterday about the Walter family who died in March in their Winlock home in what authorities called a murder-suicide, however, like the Daily News’ November follow up on the case, they report only that evidence is still being analyzed by experts to try to learn details about what occurred.

Rodney Walter, 57, Cathy Lee Walter, 65 and their 18-year-old son Devon Walter, along with their family pets, were found dead of apparent gunshots at their two-story log cabin on the 300 block of Frost Road.

The Lewis County Coroner’s Office concluded the deaths of the Winlock father and son were homicide and the mother shot herself.

Voting for Sheriff has no bearing on how well the actual “Detectives” work the case. Your Sheriff’s office has great detectives, the problem with that office is and ALWAYS has been the leadership. One word; EGO. Of course a Sheriff can decide to “discourage” his subordinates from following up on cases he may have an interest in…but only an unethical, self-centered, arrogant low life would do something like that. No accusations…hypothetically of course.

I agree too, they can only process things so fast. Plus, if you consider there is no pending court case or suspect to take to trial there isn’t such a huge rush for the lab. I know that sounds cold toward family wanting answers, but that is probably why it might seem to be taking longer than other cases we hear about to be processed.

  3. George says:

I agree, “one”. They can only analyze so much at one time… and if they mess up, then any case they might have against anyone would be gone. Let them do their jobs.

@ One: Hit spell check before posting or it makes you sound ignorant.

  5. one says:

clearly hummm your ignorant. They cant make the analyzing go any aster than the process takes.

It appears that Lewis County Sheriff’s Dept. is still clueless regarding how to investigate a violent death scene. But, unless Lewis County voters demand better, that is what they will get.
