CHEHALIS – Twenty-year-old Ulises Carrillo-Cruz was ordered held on $250,000 bail when he was charged yesterday with first-degree assault following Tuesday’s shooting at the Centralia apartment complex where he lives with his older brother.

Also charged yesterday with rendering criminal assistance were his brother Rolando Carrillo-Cruz, 25; Francisco J. Robles, 18; and Javier E. Martinez, 18, all Centralia residents.

All four wore red jail garb when they appeared before Lewis County Superior Court Judge Richard Brosey.

Defense attorney Bob Schroeter argued unsuccessfully for lower bail on Ulises Carrillo-Cruz, noting he has been a local resident his entire life.

The other three men were ordered held on $50,000 bail.

Seven pages of charging documents describing interviews with the four as well as others involved and residents of the Edison Terrace Apartments contain conflicting accounts of exactly what transpired.

Three individuals said alleged gang member Joshua Rhoades showed up to the apartment complex with other people, Rhoades being someone who “tries to jump him,” Ulises Carrillo-Cruz told police.

Rolando Carrillo-Cruz told police he saw two fast-moving vehicles pull over on Ash Street and several individuals began walking then running towards them yelling “LVL and other gang slang” as well as making threatening gestures.

Ulises Carrillo-Cruz said he fired two rounds into the ground and claimed self defense, according to charging documents.

Charging documents contain the following information:

A green Ford Taurus that reportedly fled the scene was found at the emergency entrance at Providence Centralia Hospital, where Rhoades told an arriving officer Genevieve Purser had been shot. She was inside with a gunshot wound to her right shoulder.

With Rhoades were Richard Molina and Augustina Flores-Purser.

Flores-Purser told police she and Rhoades had driven to North Ash Street to pick up Molina and Purser who had been walking.

Purser was shot before she got into the vehicle, two of them told police.

The victim, 28-year-old Purser of Centralia, remained hospitalized this morning but has been upgraded to satisfactory condition.

What is clear is police responded about 1:15 p.m. to a report of shots fired at the 400 block of North Ash Street.

A divot found in the ground appeared to be from a bullet, and indications were the trajectory came from apartment 20, according to police. Police report a spent handgun cartridge was found there as well.

A 9 mm pistol was found in some brush west of the apartments near the railroad tracks. The slide was partially opened and a round jammed in the “action,” according to charging documents.

Witness accounts indicate the four who were eventually arrested fled to another apartment in the complex.

Three of them brought two baseball bats there, one of them had allegedly hidden the gun, one or two of them flushed shell casings down the toilet and one of them hid a pair of black gloves and some marijuana behind the toilet, according to charging documents.

Rolando Carrillo-Cruz told police he had purchased the loaded gun for $50 for protection at his apartment.

Rolando Carrillo-Cruz was the alleged intended target of an August 2010 drive-by shooting in Chehalis that authorities described as perpetrated by the LVL gang.

The apartment where the two live with a female roommate was the target of window and car smashing earlier this month.

Both Carrillo-Cruz’s are additionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Arraignments are all set for Jan. 5.

I say pat em down, put one on one in a ring and let them fight clean and fair if they want to fight. Then see who’s who and let them shake hands afterwards and stop all the nonsense. Life is hard enough without them attacking each other with b.s. “pride” and all that nonsense. If they put half as much effort into bettering themselves or looking for better jobs, as they do in attacking each other, they would do very well for themselves and could get real lives and take vacations to deal with stress instead of bullying others for fun. I’m so glad I dont live there. This is what we get for not teaching conflict resolution and effective problem solving in grade school.

@pffft…the reason the knuckleheads from LVL are still running around doing whatever they want is because the people the victimize seldom testify against them. The only reason Solis-Diaz got the sentence he did was because despite the best efforts of the little joto LVL bangers to intimidate them, all of the witnesses testified. Why? Because they didn’t buy into the B.S. these fools sell. The cops say that the worst of these idiots, the alleged “shot callers” of the local LVL cry like little girls when they get arrested. They talk a lot of crap , but they make all of the younger guys do all the work, so they get the long jail terms and the older guys get relatively light jail time for B.S. violations…When they victimize other bangers they don’t testify against each other…the “victim” in this case won’t testify, mark my words. She probably refused to cooperate with the cops already. My guess is the most they will get these guys for is discharging a gun in side the city limits of something. You watch. This thing will fall apart. Then when these guys are back out of jail, the LVL will go after them again, because I don’t think for a minute that these guys just “opened up” on the LVL fools “just because.”

“las palmas” is where theyre from, its what they call part of the town theyre from bc there is palm trees on HALF of their town.
carrying weapons doesnt make you gang related.. i know half the old people carry guns, FOR PROTECTION, just like these guys.
and what are the police gonna do?! NOTHING, until someone gets hurt, so you expect them to die, AND THEN CALL THE POLICE?!, i dont think it works that way, and calling the police only gets the “lvl gang” more aggravated.

  7. George says:

“pffft”, if they weren’t in a gang, then why did they feel the need to carry weapons around? If they are scared for their lives, then why not go to the police, or is that out of the question?

These people did what they did. Now they can pay the price for their actions. Time to hold them accountable for what they did, instead of finding some other reason to blame it on. they are grown up enough to know what they did… and to know that it was against the law to do so.

I agree the LvL members should be put away as well but I also know for fact these individuals along with a few others at least consider themselves a gang called “las palomas” and also are involved in gang activity….There just aren’t as many of them as there are LvL…… As for defending themselves probably at least this time considering the names of the ppl that were with the woman who was shot who are very well known gang members and I believe one of them just got out of prison a few weeks ago!! But I also have seen and know of these individuals doing their fair share of harassing ppl LvL members and regular citizens!! They are all nothing more than a bunch of grown “bullies” on both sides but scary since they have fire power and none of them cares about anything and all think they are above the law or at least have no respect for it!!I say lock them all up they are all menaces to society!!!

  9. pffft says:

these “individuals” are NOT gang related,, they were defending themselves against the “lvl gang” who go around doing what they when they want likethey own the place, and always gettin away with it, LVL members are the ones who should be gettin put away!!!

  10. Concerned!! says:

Not that I don’t think that Guadalupe Solis-Diaz should not have paid for his crimes but I do feel like he was made an example especially since he was not even legally an adult when he committed the crime and I have seen ppl that actually commit murder to get less time I just think 92 1/2 years is a little extensive….. I hope that these grown men are at least off the streets for longer than a few days or weeks!! If not we can expect alotmore shootings and gang activity from these individuals as well asthe ones that are still out on the streets!!

  11. boo says:

I wonder how much time they will get? Guadalupe Solis Diaz got sentenced to 92.5 years when he shot at people without actually hitting any one I would hope that actually shooting someone would get you sentenced to something more than that but I’m sure these guys will only get about 5 years each! Only in Lewis county can you shoot out some windows and receive 92.5 years!

  12. boo says:

I say lock them up and their away the key! I feel much safer and will sleep much better knowing people like this are off the streets!
