HIT AND RUN AT BANK
• A 22-year-old Chehalis driver was arrested last night after reportedly crashing into a brick planter in front of Sterling Savings Bank and leaving a trail of bricks strewn up the block. It happened just before 7 p.m. at the 400 block of North Market Boulevard in Chehalis. No injuries were reported. Richard E. Engel was cited for hit and run and then released, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
SCHOOL BUS AND JEEP COLLIDE
• Chehalis police were called a little after 4 p.m. yesterday to the intersection of 13th Street and William Avenue when a school bus and a Jeep Cherokee collided. There were no children on the bus and no injuries, according to the Chehalis Police Department. Officer Linda Bailey said the bus was eastbound and preparing to turn left onto William when the driver of the Jeep behind it tried to turn as well.
BURGLAR MAKES HIMSELF AT HOME
• Police were called to a residence on the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue about 5:30 p.m. yesterday when a woman returned home after being away a couple of days and found it appeared someone had been staying there, according to Centralia police. A computer was missing. It’s not clear how the intruder got inside, Officer John Panco said.
ENGINES STOLEN
• Two Centralia residents were arrested yesterday in connection with three engines and various scrap metal stored under a tree on property on the 1900 block of Seminary Hill Road in Centralia that were stolen on Monday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested and booked yesterday for second-degree theft were Jordan C. Yocum, 28 and Daniel G. Church, 50, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. Deputies are looking for a third suspect. The loss is estimated at $1,100.
‘SOMEONE’S BEEN LOGGING ON MY PROPERTY’
• A 48-year-old Winlock man was arrested yesterday in connection with someone cutting down maple trees on 65 acres near Toledo owned by an Onalaska man. A deputy was called Tuesday to the 200 block of Bill Creek Road when a neighbor observed someone using a chainsaw on the property and took down a license plate, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Dave W. Sohrakoff was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday for first-degree malicious mischief, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said. The loss of six trees is estimated at $6,000, Brown said.
UNRULY RESIDENT ARRESTED
• A 68-year-old resident of an “assisted care facility” in Centralia was arrested after police were called yesterday afternoon and told he was being disorderly. An officer called about 2:45 p.m. to the location on the 900 block of South Schueber Road reported when an officer tried to talk with Donald L. Cowan, he refused to answer and when an officer tried to detain him, Cowan tried to get away, Officer John Panco said. Cowan was arrested for disorderly conduct and then released, according to the Centralia Police Department.
