A 65-year-old motorcyclist was injured this afternoon when he was going too fast around a curve and struck a guard rail along state Route 508 about 10 miles west of Morton, according to the Washington State Patrol.

David R. Weaver, from Lacey, was westbound at Bear Canyon when it happened, according to the state patrol. He suffered a concussion, scrapes and bruises, the responding trooper indicated.

Troopers were called to the scene just before 4 p.m.

The 2006 Harley Davidson sustained an estimated $1,000 damage and was towed.

And, also on Friday two touring motorcycles from Alberta Canada managed to run into each other at the intersection of State Highway 12 and Gershick road. They had just finished passing a long line of cars in a no passing lane when they suddenly saw a patrol car alongside the highway. As they passed the patrol car, they looked behind them to see if they were going to get pulled over, which is why they did not notice that the pickup truck they were tailgating had slowed down to make a left hand turn. Both bikes swerved to miss the truck and oncoming traffic and ended up skidding down the road. No injuries but one bike left several chunks of cowling and chrome on the pavement. Passersby seemed to take pleasure in honking at the now on foot riders as they passed.
