Tenino police: Driver stopped with more than five times the legal limit alcohol level

A 54-year-old motorist was arrested by Tenino police yesterday when his blood alcohol content was measured at .415, a level the police chief says would be fatal to most people.

“The driver was not able to walk unassisted and when asked if he would complete any field sobriety tests he said he probably shouldn’t,” Tenino Police Department Chief John Hutchings said.

A Tenino police officer responded about 3:40 p.m. yesterday in Rainier to reports of a blue van swerving in and out of oncoming traffic, traveling 30 mph in a 50 mph zone and at one point coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road, according to police.

Officer Chris Davis found the van at state Route 507 and Manke Road and attempted a traffic stop with his lights and sirens but the driver continued at least a full minute before finally pulling over at the 13400 block of state Route 507, police reported.

The driver and his 57-year-old female passenger were both obviously intoxicated, Hutchings stated in a news release.

Gary D. Bielefeld, 54, of Lacey, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Tenino Police Department for processing, according to the chief.

Two breath samples were taken and each registered .415, the chief stated. That’s more than five times above the .08 legal limit to drive.

A subsequent check determined Bielefeld was wanted on a no-bail felony warrant out of Jefferson City, Missouri, for persistent DUI offender, according to Hutchings.

Bielefeld was booked into the Thurston County Jail.

  1. Thanks Baglsdeeps for the Sterotype. Auctualy I have been working on the Tractor all day, No Time for Beer Bongs or any Bongs of any type. But If it makes you feel better to mention my name, go for it.
And as for the Mayor of Tenino, If that would of been you or I. We would be facing charges for a little road head. But as you can see, Good Ole Boyz that work for the city always get a break. Once again the system has proven itself corrupt.

  2. Reality Check says:

I hope the mayor has the honor to step down since he’s disgraced himself but im guessing there’s ego involved, not what’s best for the city. Truly a lack of leadership.

  3. Reality Check says:

He’s a conditioned alcoholic. The cops can’t cure in one arrest what took this guys lifetime to create.

  4. Bahlsdeep says:

As noted in the press release he couldn’t hardly walk. I doubt he was able to say that 2 young girls from Chehalis bought him beer and they all sat at DEC’s house doing beer bongs

  5. George says:

@ Free Air, I was referring to him having that no-bail felony warrant for being a persistent DUI offender being the reason they would send him back to Missouri. Perhaps I should have said that HOPEFULLY they will send him back there…

As for him getting out of jail any time soon, let us hope not. Blowing a .415 and still being alive is proof enough that he belongs off the street.

Another point to bring up: Will the cops now go after whatever bar he was at (if he was at a bar) for continuing to serve alcohol to someone as obviously intoxicated as he was?

  6. dericdeep says:

Bahlsdeep, you are mistaken. The mayor wasn’t the one using the “breathalyzer”!

  7. Richard C says:

We should all be thankful that no one was hurt because of the irresponsible and downright deadly behaviour this idiot exhibited. With blood alcohol that high, it surprises me the call was not to 911 to come scrape the guy off the side of the road.

  8. Free Air says:

“Well, this guy will most definitely NOT be on the roads for a while… since they will send him back to Missouri on that warrant…”

    Well, most likely not:
Law enforcement agencies classify their warrants in different ways, the most important being extraditable or non extraditable. Most agencies won’t pay for a plane ticket half way across the USA for a DUI warrant. So I’m guessing he’s here to stay.
    Drive Safely Everyone!

  9. Bahlsdeep says:

I wonder if he used the “Mayor Strawn” breathalyzer. Seemed to get him off earlier in the week.

  10. George says:

Well, this guy will most definitely NOT be on the roads for a while… since they will send him back to Missouri on that warrant… (I looked, but couldn’t find anything…)

  11. he or she gets the gold star

  12. Repeat, that has got to be the best comment of the year!!

If he and his passenger had used their breath to power the engine would they have gotten green credits?
