The south side of Mount Adams will remain closed this winter, following the forest fire that burned more than 20,000 acres there late this summer.

The closure will remain in effect into next spring, according to the officials from the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

A winter climbing route on the east side of the Aiken Lava Bed will remain open, the forest service notes.

For details and a map, go to the Gifford Pinchot website. Or phone the Mount Adams Ranger Station at 509-395-3400.
