News brief: Sheriff’s Office: Centralia father gives baby boy cut lip, nose

By Sharyn  L. Decker
Lewis County Sirens news reporter

A 28-year-old Centralia man was arrested yesterday for allegedly giving his 6-month-old baby a cut lip and other facial injuries when he struck the child because it was crying.

Jon M. Parker was booked into the Lewis County Jail yesterday afternoon after he was located at a bus stop in Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said the baby boy was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital two weeks ago by its grandmother. Parker had brought the infant to her Centralia home to be babysat, according to Brown. The alleged assault occurred previous to that, on Ives Road where Parker was staying, Brown said.

Deputies called to the hospital on Nov. 1 because of suspected child abuse weren’t able to find Parker until yesterday, according to Brown.

According to the sheriff’s office, Parker was upset because the baby was crying and hit him three times in the head while holding him, leaving him with severe bruising to his face, a bump on his head, a cut lip and a cut on the bridge of his nose.

The baby has been released into the custody of its grandmother. Parker was booked for second-degree assault of a child.

“I think the baby’s doing fine, I don’t know that there are any permanent injuries,” Brown said this morning.

I think that people need to keep their mouths shut.. until you are in her shoes you will never know what you would do. I know his mother very well and she is not trying to help jon out in anyway… sorry to hear about this!!! Sorry it came down to this…. I know adam and I will not be helping him out this time.. keep your head up and take care of that amazing baby boy!!!

@huh. I was questioning where she got her info. I didn’t not mean to acuse her of being a liar. I apologize if I hurt your feelings or made you question your trust for the reporter. Geez! No I’m “just not upset it made the news!” I’m not stupid..I know that when someone breaks the law the public has a right to know.
@sarcasticin fact..fact is the key word, which you know nothing of…idiot!

  3. Huh? says:

@Knowing – I do not have any way of knowing what you are going through, but it would be helpful as a reader to know if you mean that the reporter made up her own police report, or if you think that the police lied and the reporter knowingly reported/repeated their lies, or ????

I have come to trust Sharyn’s reporting, especially when she writes “the police report says” or uses “alleged”, or uses someone’s words in quotes. It seems that Sharyn would be liable for some big word or another for making false statements. So please, help me to know if you think this is “trustworthy” news source, or just a gossip column.

Methinks that you are just upset that this made the news…. Once again Me, PLEASE don’t read the news when something happens in my family!! And DEFINITELY NOT the comments!!!

  4. SarcasticInFact says:

Yes, we should all take a moment out of our day and devote our thoughts to the father who closed fist socked his infant baby……….in the face, multiple times. Maybe our well wishes and hopes are just what he needs to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  5. Knowing says:

Thank you morningcoffee for the positive words. Obviously, no one understands my situation. Although he is my son, I do not in any way condone what he’s done. Of course, I will remain baby’s defender first and foremost. Still, it’s hard reading statements like the father should be hung off the bridge. Really! I love my son, and I just pray he gets the help he needs. For those of you who really care about the baby, he is healthy and happy and beautiful!

  6. MorningCoffee says:

Where on earth is the mother of this infant! What a sad, sad situation. Blessings and prayers for the innocent and defenseless child. Strength be with “Knowing” for doing the right thing and raising your grandchild with love.

  7. Knowing says:

Yes, I am his mom. Just so you know knowsitalltoo, If I was trying to minimize what he did, I would not have taken the baby to the hospital, I would not have called CPS, and I would not have set up jon to be arrested! But I did.. All I am saying is the facts are wrong. The clue that the baby had been hit was a fingerprint marks in his cheek. People can say what they want. It is a terrible thing. My heart is breaking. I believe i know who you are…Thanks for breaking it a little more.

  8. KnowsAboutItToo says:

Well, I happen to know the guy involved quite well. Matter of fact, I know the whole family very well. “Knowing” is his mom, trying to minimize her son’s actions, for reasons perplexing and unknown. If there weren’t any cuts or bruises, then what was the clue that tipped off the whole thing anyway? I’ve seen what happens to someone’s face after Jon punches it, and it ain’t pretty. Those were all adults though. There is no need to look at this with a different perspective, or try to minimize or justify what took place. Flat out, HE CLOSED FIST PUNCHED A 6 MONTH OLD FREAKIN BABY. Defending this only shows extreme moral corruption and complete mental ineptitude. It a Baby. A baby. A baby. A baby.

  9. Knowing says:

I have NO agenda…except to get justice for a child who cannot defend itself. If you read the report of this situation, it says there was a cut on lip, cut on nose, bump on head and bruise..I am saying there was no cuts or bumps..I am in no way downplaying what happened. NO CHILD SHOULD BE HIT!!! I’m just saying the reporter made false statements. And as I said, the father will get what he deserves.

  10. OldLongJohnson says:

Or do you have an agenda? Are you in some way trying to protect the suspect in question and protect his reputation in the community? Would you be willing to testify under oath in front of a grand jury that the sheriff’s office falsely accused someone of abusing an infant?

  11. OldLongJohnson says:

    @Knowing:

Are you suggesting that the Sheriff’s office provided false information against a suspect?

If so, then I think you might be right. The Sheriff’s office and the prosecutor seem to just LOVE sensationalizing things and twisting the truth to fit thier agendas.

I would suggest you contact the Attorney General’s office and file a formal complaint and send a copy of the complaint to the Justice Department in Washington D.C.

If nobody is willing to stand up to the lies, then they will keep doing it. That is if what you said is true…that there was no cut nose, fat lip, or bruise.

  12. Knowing says:

Reporters need to get facts right. there is no excuse for what happened, however, there was no split lip, no cut nose, and no bump on head! I’m sure the father will get what he deserves. Just know that your comments have an effect on other family members who have to deal with both sides of this tragedy!

  13. Brian says:

I have a 8 month old son, and this makes me sick! Was he not aware that babies cry? He’s nothing but a coward and a punk! Pick on someone your own size, mofo!

  14. Disgusted says:

Poor baby. I couldn’t have said it better myself “Ninja.” Where was the mother when this occurred?

  15. crazyelcchick says:

This guy needs beat, what sicko no good for nothing.

  16. wow says:

wow hang the kid… 6 month baby… WOW WOW Hope he has no other kids..

  17. Ninja says:

What a sick and evil motherfucker.

  18. Huh? says:

“No permanent injuries” right, cuz hits to the head on infants that cause brusing and split lips don’t cause brain damage. Right.
