Thurston County sheriff’s deputies investigating a shooting last night found a marijuana grow operation with two guard alligators.

A dispute possibly regarding a failed drug transaction led to the shooting, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.

Arrested was Darren C. Shore, 41, from the Scott Lake area; his 30-year-old acquaintance was treated for two minor gunshot wounds and released from the hospital this morning, according to Lt. Greg Elwin.

The Olympian reports it occurred at the 12100 block of Champion Drive Southwest, near Scott Lake south of Olympia.

Shore said he fired in self defense, according to Elwin.

The sheriff’s office will work with animal services to determine the fate of the five-foot long alligators.

Couldn’t agree more with u DCE! Well said.

  2. LEAP is an excellent organization and all would be wise to read their information online.

Scott Lake area is a rough place. There are people that have been living there for over 3 generations. Many of the original inhabitants of Scott Lake have all passed away, but they left a lot of property to their offspring.

There are no more real work to be found in Scott Lake, but people still own their own homes and land. Illegal drugs like meth and weed became a source of income for a lot of the people living out there.

These people are so poor, they have to supplement their diet with trout from Scott Lake proper.

If illegal drugs were decriminalized, I have no doubt that many of the dangerous element of Scott Lake would be Wall St. brokers, Big Pharma CEO’s, or small business owners.

“Pinkie Sense” great comment. The drug trade has caused a lot of pain and death on both sides of the fight. The War on drugs is a falied one. We could greatly reduce costs both in the court and against property owners if drugs were legal. The right to ingest substances has been only challenged and made illegal within the last 100 years of our Modern Civilization. For thousands of years man has used controled substances as medicine. The Government has taken over the market and is strong arming “We the People”. Prescription Drugs are everywhere and kill thousands each year, Nothing about the Drug War makes sense anymore. If you want to get high Via Drugs that is your business, just please dont steal, kill or indanger the lives of others around you while getting high. I myself am a Victim of the Governments most avaliable drug, alcohol. I myself almost died after being hit by a drunk driver. Drugs have a time and a place to be used, please do not be selfish and hurt another human while intoxicated on any substance. Be smart, if you party do it in a controled enviroment. This is why we need to Tax, Educate and Regulate. Lets get the Drugs out of the Drug Dealers Hands, Support Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. Listen to real cops talk about the failed drug war Here http://www.leap.cc/ Legalizing drugs will free up resources, people are already using it’s not going to cause an epidemic the epidemic is already here. Just trying to stay on topic Sharyn ๐Ÿ™‚ That Link again is here http://www.leap.cc/

I kept telling my kids that there were gaters in the Chehalis River; guess that I wasn’t too far off!

I think that I’d rather have snapping gaters than a 9mm in the stomach – I’ve seen that end and it ain’t pretty. A friend was hunting on private land that some scum pot grower took over and the illegal squater shot the legal hunter. Police found the hunter about a week later, a slow death from a painful shot to the stomach.
I don’t agree with the government controlling the drugs, but I don’t think that just because they are that illegal growers will stop. Ever watch that episode of “Finding Bigfoot” where they spot people with AK’s with the night scope? Scarier than a Squatch!

  6. Disgusted says:

They should completely legalize marijuana and put shitheaps like this guy out of business for good. Currently, you can get better quality marijuana for a lower price than street prices at any dispensary in Washington, if you have a green card. Why buy illegally when you can get it legally and the price is lower while the quality is superior?

  7. Chris says:

I can only imagine how awesome it must have been to be one of the officers arriving on scene to find a live-in stripper (complete with pole), and two frickin’ alligators guarding a pot-grow. At that point I’m sure they were expecting to see Johnny Depp come stumbling around the corner, high on LSD, in full Hunter S. Thompson attire. Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, because this has to be one of the funniest news stories I have read in a long time.

  8. MorningCoffee says:

Well, Sharyn, I have to admit I was dumbfounded to hear of guard alligators in Washington state. Holy moly! My exact thought was, “what the h*ll.” I wonder if there was a moat built around the crop. ๐Ÿ˜€

  9. Thinking Outloud says:

Thanks Sharyn! I was wondering if this page had any rules……

  10. J.Z. says:

Alligators aren’t native to this climate. After about October, the cold will make them sluggish and lethargic. They may look intimidating, but outrunning an alligator who’s fighting off cold-induced hibernation probably isn’t too hard. Of course, if I saw an alligator just sitting there hissing at me, I doubt I’d take my chances, even if the big lizard were covered in snow!

Hey all: this story is not about the Dirty Cop Enforcer. It’s about a shooting, and a home with marijuana and two guard alligators. I’m getting bored waiting for comments or dialogue about the topic at hand … hissing alligators and all that. ๐Ÿ™‚ –sharyn decker

Everybody knows he has his right to free speech. It’s just that everybody is sick of his same old argument to every post. It makes me laugh when every few months I see a whole new crop of posters who obviously feel the same way. And since, after a couple of months or so those posters seem to disappear, just tells me that most people move on. There is NO having a logical debate with him, he just sticks to the same set of agendas and some how finds a way to relate them to each and every sirens story. Oh, and by the way, DCE, we’ve known for a long time that you post as several different people… usually posing as your own hero. A person’s manner of speaking doesn’t usually change.

  15. Melissa says:

So right DCE! Keep posting! Every word was truth whether they want to hear it or not. Like u said, there is an off button, or they could just not read ur comments if they hate “listening” to u so much!

  16. The Dirty Cop Enforcer says:

You think just because 3 people have an opinion that gives you the option to tell me to quit posting on this web site. Sheez I have 5 lap tops, I could be 5 different people with 5 different IP numbers. This site has no way to confirm who is really who.
Your welcome to your opinion though, but being told to leave has no effect on me, I’m the captain and I’ll ride my ship all the way to my watery grave if I like. DCE

  17. SMFL's mom says:

The ladies have spoken DCE. You have your own tabloid website. Go back to it.

  18. Jackie says:

    Ditto Brittany MF Morehead!

  19. OnyGirl says:

Well said Brittany! DCE needs to move on…get a life…get a JOB!

  20. Dirty Cop Enforcer says:

Pressing what issue? I’m staying on topic and commenting about the Marijuana Problem in Washington State. The article is talking about Marijuana, so I’m adding my two cents worth. Your Computer does have an off button.

  21. Brittany MF Morehead says:

Oh my gosh DCE! I hate cops as much as the next guy that has gotten into any trouble with the law but you are seriously annoying. I can’t even read the sirens without seeing you rant and rave. You have some very good points. And I’m sorry for what happened to you but this is getting to the point where I don’t want to get on this website anymore because I’m so sick and annoyed by the fact that you keep pressing this issue. I understand that you have freedom of speech but do you seriously feel the need to post on every single sirens story?! Give it a rest! You drive me nuts!

  22. Dirty Cop Enforcer says:

Marijuana Prohibition is an Epic Failure. I call marijuana Growers “Mini Capones” as long as Marijuana remains illegal this kind of behavior is going to be the Norm… I look at Marijuana growers as Patriots and Freedom fighters. Marijuana growers are protecting the United States by keeping the Supply of Mexican Cartel Marijuana out of the Country. After all our For Fathers Grew Marijuana and used it for Medical Purposes. The Government has lied to the people since 1937… Legalize, Educate, and Regulate!
