MAYFIELD LAKE AREA PLAGUED BY BREAK-INS
• At least five burglaries were reported over the weekend in the area south of Mayfield Lake and west of Mossyrock. Broken into were homes, garages or shop buildings on the 400 and 500 blocks of Winston Creek Road and vacation properties on the 100 block of Island View Drive, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. They occurred between Thursday and Saturday. Among the valuables stolen were jewelry, chainsaws, tools and an Army blanket, according to Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown.
ROAD RAGE IN CENTRALIA
• Centralia police are looking for the driver of large Chevrolet pickup after an irate motorist last night reportedly chased and then cut off another vehicle in Centralia. Officers contacted about 10 p.m. in the area of North Pearl Street did not find the suspect, but continue to investigate, according to the Centralia Police Department.
POLICE: MAN ATTACKS DOOR WITH KNIFE
• A 44-year-old Centralia man was arrested for attempted assault after he allegedly stabbed his neighbor’s door on Friday at the 700 block of South Tower Avenue. Officers called about 1:15 p.m. noted when they contacted Brian L. Schmidt, he refused to comply with their demands so they used a Taser on him. Schmidt was eventually handcuffed and booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was also arrested for harassment because he reportedly told his father he would kill him, according to police.
MAN PEPPER SPRAYED BY WIFE
• Centralia police responded to the 700 block of Euclid Way about 6:40 p.m. yesterday where a woman allegedly sprayed mace on her husband during an argument. The wife is wanted for questioning related to a potential fourth-degree assault charge, according to the Centralia Police Department.
DISPUTE CALLS
• Centralia police say a 45-Centralia man hid in a closet and refused to comply with their instructions when officers responded to a reported dispute on Saturday night at the 500 block of South Silver Street. Ronald J. Gleason was subsequently arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for obstructing a public servant, according to the Centralia Police Department.
• A 23-year-old Centralia man was zapped by a police Taser and taken to the ground at the 800 block of Wayne Drive in Centralia early Saturday morning. Officers responded about 4:45 a.m. to a possible dispute contacted Emanuel W. Martin who refused to comply with their commands, according to the Centralia Police Department. Martin was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for obstructing a law enforcement officer, according to the Centralia Police Department.
• Morton police responded to a neighborhood dispute at the 100 block of Third Street about 10:45 am. on Friday. The parties were advised to not have contact with each other if they couldn’t get along as neighbors, according to the Morton Police Department.
CHEHALIS HOME BURGLARIZED
• Chehalis police were called about 7:15 p.m. yesterday to a residential burglary on Southwest 11th Street near Market Boulevard when an individual returned there to find the back door kicked open. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
CHEHALIS BUSINESS BURGLARIZED
• Chehalis police called this morning to a burglary at National Frozen Foods on the 400 block of Northwest State Avenue think the thief or thief’s used the businesses forklift to move large boxes to gain better access when they made off with a large amount of scrap copper.
SCHOOL BUS GARAGE BURGLARIZED
• Someone broke in to the Onalaska School District’s bus garage and left with about $1,000 worth of tools but may have gotten spooked somehow, because the loot was found on the ground nearby, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. It happened sometime after 7 p.m. on Thursday but before 1 a.m. on Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. School officials are viewing security tape from the burglary to try to identify suspects, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said.
CHURCH BURGLARIZED
• Someone broke into the office at the St. Paul Lutheran Church on the 300 block of state Route 505 in Winlock and stole approximately $50 cash, according to a report taken on Saturday from a sheriff’s deputy. The break-in occurred sometime between last Wednesday and Thursday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
DRUGS
• Police called about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday when a 34-year-old Chehalis man was discovered sleeping in a supposedly vacant motel room on Southwest Interstate Avenue also found numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia. An officer arrested Chad N. Nickols for trespass and possession of marijuana, and possibly will face charges of drug possession related to suspected drug reside, according to the Chehalis Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to police.
• A 44-year-old Centralia resident was arrested for possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop by police about 2:25 a.m. yesterday at the 100 block of North Pearl Street in Centralia. Joely M. Flores was booked into the Lewis County Jail. Enrique Espinosa-Caravco, 34, of Centralia, was arrested on an outstanding warrant during the same stop, according to the Centralia Police Department.
OTHER THEFT
• Police were called about 7:25 a.m. on Friday to the 600 block of South Pearl Street in Centralia where someone attempted to break in to coin machines.
• Chehalis police were called about 12:30 a.m. today to 1400 block of Southwest William Avenue after a female and her brother chased a pair of suspected car prowlers down the street. She had looked out a window and observed the dome light on her father’s truck and then saw two people walking nearby, according to Chehalis police.
• Chehalis police were called about 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to a vehicle prowl on Southeast Third Street near McFadden Avenue. Someone had cut through the soft top on a Jeep and rifled through its contents, according to the Chehalis Police Department.
• An officer took a report of a vehicle prowl on Friday at the 800 block of Centralia College Boulevard in which the victim said her purse disappeared from an unlocked vehicle sometime in the previous two days.
THAT’S JUST MEAN
• A deputy was called on Sunday to the 3000 block of Jackson Highway south of Chehalis where an 81-year-old woman said that someone cut the power cord to her Christmas lights three nights in a row, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
VANDALISM
• An officer took a report of a graffiti tag on a fence on the 2200 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia on Saturday.
UTILITY POLES, WIRES, KNOCKED DOWN
• Deputies were called to the 3000 block of Jackson Highway south of Chehalis just before 6 p.m. yesterday where a vehicle pulled down several power lines and poles and left the scene. The roadway was shut down for repairs and deputies were unable to locate the vehicle, which was described by various witnesses as a dump truck, a semi truck and trailer or a truck hauling a piece of equipment, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
FLEEING DRIVER CAUGHT WHEN CAR HITS GRAVEL
• A 34-year-old Chehalis man was arrested last night after he allegedly tried to outrun police who were trying to stop him on Interstate 5 near the Napavine interchange. The pursuit ended on the 700 block of Koontz Road when the driver lost control of his car on gravel in a construction area, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy and a Napavine officer were trying to intercept the southbound Dodge Stratus after hearing it was involved in a hit and run involving a deputy coroner, according to the sheriff’s office. Reyes Lopez-Majana was booked into the Lewis County Jail for attempting to elude. Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said a charge of driving under the influence will be recommended as well.
