CHEHALIS – Lewis County Prosecutor Jonathan Meyer has been sick, spending 13 days in the hospital during four separate stays since October.

He was in the office today and says he anticipates being back full time next week.

Meyer, 41, said only that he has had “intestinal issues.”

He said he has not been in the office on a daily basis, but hasn’t stopped working.

“We’ve had manager’s meetings in my hospital room and they would come over to my house,” he said.

And he’s had his iPad with him, he said today.

The elected prosecutor is just now starting the third year of a four-year term. Unlike some previous prosecutors, Meyer fairly regularly handles criminal cases himself.

He is prosecuting Ricky Riffe, the former Lewis County resident brought back here from his home in Alaska this summer to face murder, kidnapping and robbery charges in the 1985 double slaying of Ed and Wilhelmina Maurin, an elderly Ethel couple. Riffe’s trial is scheduled for May.

Meyer said he had an infection in October and surgery last month.

He’s working his way back to eating solid foods. His illness has caused him to drop 85 pounds, he said.

“I have to get my strength back,” he said.

  1. The Police threatened to Plant Drugs On Me Before my Interogation..But what can I say they are dirty and upset with my web site.

I for one have been a victim of our county sheriffs not actually doing their work. Although I am not going to get into the actual issues of the charges, I just find it incredibly interesting that they are so quick to file charges on anyone and when they realize that someone is not going to fall for their tricks and actually take those charges to trial they offer plea bargins. This county is a joke and all it wants is money!!!! Who cares about the lives that they ruin in the process!!!!

I cant wait for David Lows trial. Hopefully he didn’t talk to the police or anything like that. My friend got arrested and confessed on tape and they played it at the trial. He’s still in prison.

“You are completely deluding yourself!!! Stop with the DCE witch hunt already!!!”

You can’t hunt something that spends all day trying to get in our faces…

Bobby, my guess is that Meyer offered the explanation for his absence or decline of office hours. “Celebrity” or not, he is an elected official, and should be accountable for his time. “Personal issues” might give the wrong impression, while “health issues” could suggest inability to handle the job, or an illness that he doesn’t want to discuss. I give him pity over the intestinal issue as there is much of that in my family and I know how dibilitating it can be, but also appreciate knowing that he’s not just flaking out. My two cents, for what it’s worth in this economy. 🙂

“I have to wonder why a person’s medical issues, elected or not, are a topic of discussion since that information is protected by federal law.”

Because Meyer is a local celebrity and worthy of pity or praise whenever the occasion demands!

Sometimes justice has to take a back seat to personal issues.

“You have hate towards anyone that enforces the laws of this state and nation.”

You are completely deluding yourself!!! Stop with the DCE witch hunt already!!! DCE has made it PERFECTLY CLEAR TIME AND TIME AGAIN that he DOES NOT HATE the POLICE, only CORRUPT POLICE. ALSO, DCE doesn’t use some arbitrary test to determinine what constituses a “corrupt official”. He CLEARLY makes his point that a corrupt cop is someone who ABUSES THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT OF A CITIZEN, which is something YOU ALSO CAN ENJOY.

“Whether it be Centralia PD, the FEDS or any other agency. If they hold someone responsible for their actions, you deem them as dirty and wrong.”

Again, enough with the hyperbole and blatantly false insinuations!!! DCE only gets upset with the police hold the WRONG PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE, or when the police LET CRIMINALS GO FREE!!.

“Trade a police man places for 1 day and see what all it entails.”

What is that supposed to mean? You must think DCE is a donut freak afraid to pursue crime and wants to hang out at the middle school busting hard core pot heads.

Meyer is fair and honest. He has been known to drop cases that were iffy to protect the rights of citizens. He is a huge upgrade from the Golden days and I wish him well. As for DCE, I agree with Oregon. You have hate towards anyone that enforces the laws of this state and nation. Whether it be Centralia PD, the FEDS or any other agency. If they hold someone responsible for their actions, you deem them as dirty and wrong. Trade a police man places for 1 day and see what all it entails.

Oh, so that’s why he hasn’t called me back!! Intestinal issues are no fun at all, and can be horrible to control.

  12. Ridge says:

I worry about my nation when it’s citizens wish ill upon another when they are in a hospital bed. Now I didn’t vote for Meyer, but I hold no ill will towards him either. The best place to show ones dislike for a politician is at the ballot box. Not wishing him harm while ill. Once upon a time we had a civil nation which respected the differing views of each other. I pray that we can someday return to a time of mutual respect.

  13. Oregon Citizen with Knowledge says What are you talking about. I have never lived in Oregon. Nor have I ever been convicted of a crime in Oregon. No Sorry Wrong… Next

  14. Oregon Citizen with Knowledge says:

DCE, you live in the county and drink county water. Maybe flouride is causing you cyphilis enduced dimensia or it may also be from holding your cell phone to your ear when you call someone daily from an ambulance chasing law office to report how the local cops are putting baby laxatives in your wheaties.

Meyer is a good and fair prosecutor. You are only hating because he is part of a judicial system that you have been bitten by since your days in Oregon.

  15. The Dirtiest Cop Enforcer says:

Good Thing Jonathan Meyer brought his I Pad with him, he can keep up with the latest dirty cop news at my web site. In fact it’s funny that Meyer has a stomach issue. Maybe it’s from all the GMO food he’s been eating. He’d Better hope his Nausea problems are handled with prescription medicines, it would be a crime if the Prosecutor needed Medical Marijuana to cure his Nausea issues. Many people that die of stomach cancer or stomach ailments end up using cannabis to releive Nausea, in Meyer’s case he would be a closet smoker. Just a Thought about Jonathan Meyer and the Good Ole Boy Net Work. Maybe it’s the Fluoride in the County Water supply, after all it does cause Mutagenic issues when consumed. Oh and by the way I would send a get well card, but I’m too busy fighting Bogus Criminal Charges. My middle finger perched in your direction will have to suffice for now!
