The funny thing is they are trying to do away with a dollar bill in favor of a dollar coin. Go figure.

  2. OldLongJohnson says:

In case you weren’t aware, Lewis County is “special” and the rules that govern the rest of the country DO NOT APPLY.

I’m sure what the cashier just wanted to be paid in meth, but was mad because the customer only had legal us currency.

The mad was no doubt arrested for disturbing the tweeker peace.

  3. sumthin2say says:

    This country is effed.

  4. LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE... says:

As if the police can’t find other things to do then to arrest a person paying a bill with change. See what society and this world is doing to the American people. Coin is legal tender for debts public and private. Lawsuit on the federal goverment then state and city. Money is money pennies, nickoles, dimes, quarters, bills it all spends the same… I guess not anymore… Another case of peoples ignorance…

  9. Is it Bliss? says:

While U.S. coins are legal tender…. There is, no Federal law mandating that a person or business must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. I say currency because the same situation could arise if a person or business chose not to accept $1 bills, $100 bills, etc.

What this means is that the Federal Reserve System must honor U.S. currency and coins, not necessarily anyone else. U.S. currency and coins can be used for making payments, but merchants do not necessarily have to accept that form of payment. A gas station could have a policy of not accepting $100 bills, large sums of $1 bills or coins, etc and if the person who pumped the gas had no other form of payment, it would be perfectly within the rights of the store operator to call the police, because the gas had already been pumped (consumed).

    Kind of a lame situation…

Wow… that lady who kept calling about snakes in the microwave? Sounds like she may have been right… 😉

“Hope and Change” may buy a presidency, but it won’t buy gasoline.

“a customer trying to pay for gas with change instead of real money”…
There is always someone who will comment on the story not written, and today that is me!
Is change not “real money”? I thought that it was perfectly legal to use any combination of US Currency to pay for things. I have yet to walk into a business that says “No Quarters Accepted”. I guess that a crime would be filling up a tank, then tossing the “change” on the counter, and there not be enough? Too bad for the clerk, but change IS legal and as long as there is enough to pay said bill, it doesn’t warrent a call to the police.
I guess that I just don’t know enough of the story….
