Sharyn’s Sirens: Daily police and fire roundup

SHOP LOCAL, BUT PLEASE PAY UNLESS YOU WANT ACCOMMODATIONS AT THE GRAY BAR HOTEL

• A shopping spree for two Pierce County men ended yesterday with their arrests at the Centralia Outlets for organized retail theft and possession of methamphetamine. Police called about 5:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Lum Road regarding a shoplifted purse found a pair of suspects in an adjacent store and a vehicle with merchandise inside it from places such as Aeropostale, Corning, Nike, Sunbirds in Chehalis and Sears at the Lewis County Mall, according to the Centralia Police Department. When one of the men was patted down, an officer discovered suspected stolen goods such as sunglasses and gloves, along with a tie from another retailer, Sgt. Kurt Reichert said. “They cuffed him,” Reichert said. One of the subjects was seen kicking a bag under a patrol car; it contained suspected meth, according to police. The total value of the goods was $1,665, but it only takes hitting three or more stores to push a misdemeanor shoplifting offense up to the felony of organized retail theft, according to Reichert. Police counted approximately nine victim businesses. Centralia has lately become somewhat of a destination location for “northerners” engaging in this type of activity, Reichert said. Roland T. Hunter, 52, of Tacoma, and Matthew D. Drennan, 36, of Edgewood, were  booked into the Lewis County Jail.

DRUGS

• A 39-year-old Rochester man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop about 10:50 p.m. on Friday on West Main Street and North Washington Avenue in Centralia. An officer asked James W. Strothman if he wanted to retrieve anything from his vehicle before it was impounded and he asked for a small black bag, according to police. The officer checked to make sure it didn’t have any weapon inside before handing it over and found a handgun and a baggie of a powdered substance, according to police. The Rochester man was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

VEHICLE PROWL

• Centralia police were called just before 9 a.m. yesterday to the 1500 block of South Gold Street after a woman discovered someone had taken her purse and keys from the back of her truck. She was getting ready to leave and set them there while walking a dog, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A leather jacket was reported stolen from an unlocked car at the 1100 block of West Pear Street in Centralia on Friday morning.

WRECKS

• A 62-year-old Olympia man was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital after a single-vehicle collision yesterday evening on Interstate 5 near Vader. Troopers called about 6:30 p.m. to the southbound lanes near milepost 58 found that traffic had slowed in front of Bill Bakke who was unable to stop. Bakke moved to the left into the concrete barrier, then rotated back the other way coming to rest in the right lane, according to the Washington State Patrol. His 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was described as totaled. He was cited for following too closely, according to the state patrol.

AND MORE

• And as usual, other incidents such as arrests for warrants, DUI, 49-year-old woman walking in the middle of the roadway disrupting traffic; responses for possible identity theft, for shoplifting such as a man pushing a baby stroller at Outlet stores, alcohol and energy drink from grocery store … and more.

  1. Guilty Bystander says:

And by the way, Beefy J, I’m a happily-hetero guy. FWIW.

  2. ANY VOTES? says:

    FLOURIDE??? OR WHAT??? DAMMMMNNN!!!

  3. Dominoe says:

Ok so I never made the comments about sending people here or there Reread the posts and you attacked me first. Calm down, go back, and look through what’s been said and then maybe you will see clearer. I am now done with this conversation.

  4. Big Beefy J says:

Sorry Sharon. I didn’t mean to offend, irritate, or bore anyone.

  5. adminsharyn says:

i like opinions. i like a healthy dialogue when there are differences of opinions. this conversation is annoying me now. lose the foul language, lose the name calling and ratchet down the anger. it’s bugging me. any further comments are going to have to come across like adults talking civilly to each other, or i’m not clicking the “approve comment” button. — news reporter and website administrator sharyn d.

  6. Big Beefy J says:

Hey Dominoe, I don’t recall anybody coming in here, shooting off their big fat mouth’s, and then telling me to “just shut up” except you.

FYI, I classify telling people to “shut up”, right up there with telling people they are “stupid” or “not worth listening to” etc.

It’s a way of dis-empowering people. Which, it would seem, you like to do to men with opinions. Which is weird since you’re the most opinionated person on this forum. Why would you be so arrogantly rude to another person sharing an opinion? Are you that hypocritical?

  7. Dominoe says:

Um Beefy if you take a look you are really the only one playing the name calling game. You started calling people racist and jumping to unfounded conclusions, because they disagree with your views. In my opinion that makes you an idiot, which is why I said so. I went ahead and proved you wrong about me being a racist, so you ignored that fact and resorted to insinuating that I’m some man hating bulld*ke, just because I don’t share your opinions and views. You failed debate class didn’t you? Your anger makes you transparent. You lost and now you’re throwing a tantrum. I don’t hate men, I hate stupid people. Gender, race, or creed have no bearing on how I deferenciate someone’s intelligence level. All you do is sit there and come up with BS ideas about who I am, to make you feel better about why I don’t agree with you. So every woman who thinks you are wrong must be gay? Well then the world must just be full of homosexual women according to you. That’s your whole argument; “you don’t agree with me so you’re a racist” “you proved ne wrong AND you don’t agree with me so now you’re a man hating lesbian”. At least I have legitimate reasons to call you an idiot. You sound like one. Try rereading my last post and then try again. It might help clear up your theories about my alleged racism and lesbianisim.

  8. Big Beefy J says:

No, lol. You’re very mistaken. Admit it, you’re “Guilty” of that!!!

I was defending my opinion that the land where the outlet malls sits could be put to better use.

To which, you inquired as to “WHY?”

So, then I suggested GIVING it to the NATIVE INHABITANTS of THAT LAND because IN MY OPINION, they could put it to better use.

Then, DOMINOE (little miss black and white) pulled the race card by insinuating that I would be okay with shipping black people back to africa or passing laws prohibiting white people from living in the united state.

Saying shit like that is INHERENTLY RACIST. So you trying to deflect that crap back onto me is pathetic.

Could someone please remind me not to give an anwer to any more of Guilty’s questions? They are just designed to inflame and start petty name-calling wars.

  9. Guilty Bystander says:

I don’t know about you, but I can just FEEEL the LOOOVE.

First of all, you played the racist card first, Beefy J, not anyone else.

Second, you STILL haven’t shown any empirical evidence supporting your claim that whites co-existed peacefully with natives for centuries before Columbus arrived.

Finally, all I was asking originally was what you’d do with the Factory Outlets, which you eventually did answer. None of this had to escalate to where it’s at now, but EVERY post I’ve read from you on this site is contentious and hostile. How can anyone have a dialogue with someone like that? I’m giving up trying.

Enjoy your anger as it consumes you.

  10. Big Beefy J says:

I see what the issue is…

I’m a male. I have an opinion. I’m empowered enough to express it.

Some so-called “women” just can’t handle that and will disagree with me, call me names, and tell me to just “shut up” until they are blue in the face or until my ears explode.

  11. Big Beefy J says:

Here’s the series of events that seems to ALWAYS lead to this juvenile name-calling and petty bickering.

    #1. I post an OPINION.
#2. Someone disagrees with said opinion.
#3. Dominoe and Guilty decide to play games and come up an ALTERNATE opinion that directly contradicts the original (fair game).
#4. Then, when the alternative opinion is not accepted 100%, then that person is a “racist”, “a woman hater”, “dummy”, “jerk” etc, etc.
    #5 Rinse and repeat.

You guys make this place more like an echo chamber for your personal intolerances than a place to share ideas and opinions. And this is PROVEN by the fact that neither one of you are willing to have a friendly debate alone, but MUST have someone else there to help you “gang up” on whomever it is you target.

  12. Big Beefy J says:

So what do you f’n losers (Guilty and her lover Dominoe) do when you’re not starting shit with people, calling them names, and making up lies? File complaints about tea pots because they look too much like Hitler?

  13. Old Long Johnson says:

There’s no logical reason a bunch of near-do-wells should take an opinion and twist into what inevitably becomes a personal issue.

You guys like to disagree with someone just so you can make personal attacks on people. Just grow up and quit pretending like everything people say “hurts” your feeling or whatever.

    Nobody cares.

Somone expressed an opinion. That opinion differs from your own. What about that entitles you to twist every statement into a personal attack? You f’n losers have no life except for LC sirens.

  14. Big Beefy J says:

There’s no debate!! It’s just you and your loser friends trying to start shit just because someone’s opinion differs from your own.

There is no debate. So debate with yourself all you want. I merely shared an opinion, and as usual, the town clowns come out in force to insert their little racist agenda.

    Grow the f up.

  15. Guilty Bystander says:

Calling someone a racist is an easy way to shut them up and end the debate. Not an honest way to “win” an argument, but not an uncommon one.

And I’m still hoping Beefy J will provide us a specific source of information proving “there were white people living here in PEACE with the native for centuries before Columbus or the so-called Puritans.” I’m just not holding my breath.

No problem with the notion of a cultural center, museum or school for the Chehalis people, although I don’t think those would replace the lost jobs or revenue if they replaced the Factory Outlets, which I don’t shop at anyway because their “bargains” are rarely all that great. All these things could have already been built on land the tribe presently owns, but they chose to have a casino, hotel, gas station and burger joint constructed instead.

  16. Dominoe says:

I think the only hateful or angry person is YOU. You can take anything that anyone says, twist it to fit into something you can argue, and turn it into a completely ugly statement that was not intended that way. You have a problem and you should seek help for your issues. I don’t have to defend myself to someone like you, and it’s really none of your effing business, but I thought you should know that while your busy calling me a racist; my son is native. Yeah that’s right idiot. My fiance? Native. My baby girl? Native. What I can tell you is “the redman” has come a long way since teepees, loincloths, spears and the first thanksgiving and they don’t need you advocating for them. Especially in such a hateful, ugly way. If they still had rights to that land they would take it back. So just do us all a favor and shut up.

  17. Big Beefy J says:

Wow, you are some piece of work.

In case you haven’t noticed, those casinos that you despise so much, actually put dollars back into the community while providing very well paying jobs with benefits to ALL qualified individuals and not just tribal members.

Furthermore, when it comes to the amount of money provided by the “greedy casino owners”, which includes THOUSANDS of tribal members, is second only to the GOVERNMENT!!!! That’s right, the tribal members who are finally able to succeed financially, are actually giving back to the community by WORKING, PAYING TAXES, and OWNING PROPERTY. Oh those HORRIBLE NATIVES!!!

I don’t know why you are so racist and hateful towards the ancestors of the original indigenous people that have lived in washington state for thousands of years, but it’s hurtful and shameful.

There is no excuse for that kind of hatefulness. The casino is a great source of revenue for the tribe, which includes THOUSANDS of local people who live, shop, and pay rent in Lewis County. Show a little more respect please. If you can.

  18. Dominoe says:

Big beefy those are all great ideas… A school… A museum… But none of that would happen. The fact is the “redman” is just as greedy as the white man and it would just be space for another casino. Get a clue. The outlets are far better for the community than another place for gambling addicts to lose their families rent money. What is your deal?

  19. Big Beefy J says:

“Great! In that case, I had a new bicycle stolen from me when I was eight years old and I WANT IT BACK NOW!”

Equating the systematic genocide and native people by the US government and the blatant theft of their lands with stealing our childhood bicycle is a great way to attemp to discredit the importance of paying restitutions for crimes against humanity.

The mention of white peoplel living peacefully with the indigenous population is just a given. The French colonized huge areas of the south. The Seminole of Florida accepted black people into their tribes to inter marry. After a while, a white person had children with natives and so lost the whiteness of their skin. Many of these half-breeds also owned land and made deals with tribes through marriage for land rights.

But when the US government set up shop, none of that mattered. They didn’t care what color you were. If you were friendly to the “red man” then you were treated like a red man and you too had your land stolen, regardless if you were part white!

Now that the history lesson is over for the day, I think it was a rather creative idea to turn the land that the wasteful outlest sits on back to the tribes.

How bad could a cultural heritage center be? How about a native history museum? How about a school to native arts again? All that revenue would go right back into the local cummunity rather than in the deep deep pockets of some out-of-staters.

  20. ChangeMHLaws says:

I get it, “If you really knew” as I also have relatives with mental illness. My rant was not at ALL directed toward family or loved ones, but more toward the laws that state we cannot force long-term treatment or forced medication on folks as it is their “right” to be mentally ill.

I wish there was a middle ground we could reach that could serve the public as well as her needs. She is a person deserving of love, dignity and respect.

  21. Guilty Bystander says:

Although I’d admit to a certain fascination about pre-Columbian caucasians living in peace with the natives for centuries in the Western Hemisphere, since besides the Leif Ericcson myth I’ve never heard that one.

  22. Guilty Bystander says:

Great! In that case, I had a new bicycle stolen from me when I was eight years old and I WANT IT BACK NOW!

Angry ideologues like you are too easy…and boring.

  23. Big Beefy J says:

But, allow me to respond to this genius little tidbit:

“Does this mean that all white people should leave North America and move back to Europe?”

There were white people living here in PEACE with the native for centuries before Columbus or the so-called Puritans. The fact you don’t know this highlights your ignorance of not only the land you occupy, but the history of that land.

Do I think stolen property should be returned to its rightful owners? YOU BETCHA!!! Any “justification” for lying and cheating the natives out of their sacred birthright is really shallow. And then resorting to racism is really really shallow.

  24. Big Beefy J says:

You know, you’re welcome to read whatever you want into it.

No doubt anything you say is just a justification for theft of native land.

  25. Guilty Bystander says:

Interesting concept of giving back stolen land. Does this mean that all white people should leave North America and move back to Europe? No doubt you think black folks ought to be sent back to Africa, too, since their ancestors were brought here illegally as slaves (who themselves were sold to the traders by other African tribes…not sure how they’ll settle that score with the Zulus).

And should the tribes also head back to Asia via the Bering Strait and leave the hemisphere to the animals THEY “stole” it from? After all, to use your own words, “it was their land to begin with.”

  26. Dominoe says:

Big beefy the outlet malls bring tourists and its actually a roadside attraction and pulls people in off the freeway. It creates jobs in a place there are almost none and helps the economy. Not to mention it provides shopping for locals in an otherwise dead retail area.
Yeah lets give it to the tribes…just what we need in downtown Centralia, another casino or hotel. You sir are a genius! Keep the bright ideas rolling!

  27. Big Beefy J says:

Naturally I would give the land back to the Chehalis Tribe from whom it was illegally stolen.

No doubt it’s THEIR land. There’s not much of a chance they would put it to worse use. But then again, it was their land to begin with.

  28. Hahaha says:

Lewis county is so stupid just like the cops here in Centralia. They post up stupid fhings that arent even worth putting up on this website.

  29. Guilty Bystander says:

So what would you do with the Factory Outlets?

  30. Big Beefy J says:

    “SHOP LOCAL” Indeed!

But the factory outlets are a financial dead-zone. They provide low-wage service jobs, take up valuable space that could be better put to use, and they send all profits out of state.

A commercial dead-zone deserving of having people rip them off. If they don’t like it, they can move elsewhere.

  31. Steverino says:

There seems to be a lot of rough types hanging out at the outlet mall, almost every day there is a news story about some kind of crime occurring there. Kind of a black eye on Centralia. Anyone know if the outlet mall has a security guard, they sure need one.

  32. if you really knew says:

Yes she has a mental illness and yes it is sad. Barb has been though a lot. My uncle was married to her MANY years ago before he passed away. The problem is she won’t take her meds. She does great when she does but soon as she quits or gets out of a medical facility we see her back on lewir county sirens.

  33. ChangeMHLaws says:

Looks like there was a woman arrested for walking down the middle of the road, and the jail roster names a woman arrested several times for this. From what has been reported before, she is suffering from mental illness.

I cannot see how not forcing treatment on her is helping anyone. She does not appear “happy” and is definitely not liberated. I cannot imagine she is fulfilling her right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Wish the law would allow authorities to pursue a fairly long-term course of medicine and inpatient treatment… Sad situation.
