Man booked for Lewis County murder

CHEHALIS – A man was booked into the Lewis County Jail  yesterday for murder, however, the sheriff’s office won’t say anything about what homicide he is linked to.

Corey Ross Morgan was arrested for second-degree murder and booked at 3 p.m., according to jail’s roster.

A spokesperson for the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office would not say if Morgan is connected with the suspicious death of 48-year-old Chehalis woman under investigation since early Friday morning or if detectives are working on another death in the county.

Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said yesterday morning a man went to a house on the 5900 block of state Route 508 west of Morton and told a woman there he and his fiance had gotten in a wreck on Forest Service Road 73, about two miles away, and she wasn’t breathing.

Aid found her dead when they arrived at the collision, according to Brown.

Detectives were questioning the un-named 32-year-old Randle man who said the couple had been “jumped” and the wreck happened while they were trying to get away, according to Brown. The sheriff’s office yesterday also said they were looking for 39-year-old Roger Etter, of Kelso, because he might have information in the case.

Lewis County Coroner Warren McLeod said an autopsy was conducted yesterday and he has determined the cause and manner of death for the woman, but he is withholding that information at the request of the sheriff’s office.

He also is not yet releasing her name as he has not confirmed who she is, he said. McLeod said he has tentatively identified her and notified the family of that person.

Brown indicated last night the sheriff’s office will release no further information on the man booked into the jail until after representatives from its office, the prosecutor’s office and the coroner’s office have a chance to get together for “briefing.”

That won’t happen before Monday, according to Brown.

Well, I sure missed the call on that one. Figured for sure it was about drugs. Glad they got to the bottom of it all.
I’ve never understood why any woman would give a guy a second chance after being hit. Get your stuff and go walking!

  2. Guilty Bystander says:

I’m fine with a homicide task force in Lewis County…as long as its members are from OUTSIDE Lewis County.

  3. Disgusted (the Original) says:

That poor, poor woman. What a terrible way to die, and especially at the hands of someone you loved. This f***er should get the death penalty

  4. cindy says:

R.I.P. my dear friend! You don’t have to hurt anymore!

  5. Task force needed says:

I think Lewis County needs a homicide investigation task force, made up of experienced detectives from all three major agencies. Instead, we have a sheriff who refused to acknowledge a murder, despite two citizen juries and a coroner calling the death of Ronda Reynolds a homicide. Of course, LC, Chehalis and Cent. do not play well with each other.

I agree Free Air, to a certain extent. In cases like Robert Yates and Gary Ridgeway, the police deliberately held back certain information they thought would be useful.

However, they never held back the victim’s name after notification of next of kin.

I’m sure in a small town like Morton, they would know who the dead woman is by now.

I’m of the opinion the cops are not releasing names and scenarios because they are desperately hoping they won’t have to get up and do REAL police work and that some ANONYMOUS snitch will do it for them.

I’ll bet it’s all meth related too.

Well, this discussion got derailed in record time…

I’m going to go way out on a limb here and suggest that you don’t want to give out all your information to the public when your not sure who or how many might be involved in a murder. Just seems like it’s easier to keep a suspect from skipping town if they don’t know your after them.

  8. Old Long Johnson says:

And Bob, I DO trust the Sheriff!!

I trust that the Sheriff will screw this case up just like he and his duputies have screwed up nearly every murder case that came across their desks.

Rhonda Reynolds, Ed and Minnie Maurin, and the list could go on and on.

I trust the Sheriff’s office will claim to have ‘no new evidence’ and shuffle the case under their more important “meth snitch” cases.

Drive thru. See! I DO trust the Sheriff’s office.

  9. Old Long Johnson says:

Just like Rhonda Reynolds was supposed to “trust the Sheriff”?

Nice try jerk. But maybe if you cried harder, I might trust the LC po po afterall.

  10. Bob Bronson says:

I just want to say LJ…start trusting your local Sheriff! You Dumbsh*t

  11. Bob Bronson says:

    Old Long Johnson,

Could you cry a little louder?

  12. Old Long Johnson says:

So basically you have a murder and only one definite witness and one possible witness/aggressor.

With nothing else to go on, the town clowns refuse to release any details in the hopes that someone will be dumb enough to do their jobs for them.

    Nice try.
