Come on Big Lou.. thats a pretty big sweeping generalization to make, I think you would admit. Nowhere in this article does it list the parent’s occupations or lack thereof. I was abused by my father who had a doctorate degree and we were an upper middle class family. Abuse comes in all shapes, sizes, and income brackets. I have never seen any research showing that “most” people on assistance are using it because they are lazy and/or druggies. I get the frustration, as clearly some misuse the system, but generalizations stick in my craw.

Very true, lisarae. CPS is nothing more than a jobs program for people with MSW degrees who can’t find meaningful employment in the private sector. Today’s barista is tomorrow’s CPS case worker.

Ford Galaxy 500 – I think Jonathan D. Greyeagle (if guilty) is pathetic low life. But what about the girlfriend, she did not report him to the police for beating her children. Most good people would give their life for their children, she did not even bother calling the police. She should be arrested for child neglect.
Most of these people are on dope and government assistance. It’s kind of our fault in some ways for providing money through the government to feed and house them so these people can use drugs.
I know several people on assistance who need it. But believe me, most do not need help from the government, they don’t want to work, most want to get high and have fun at our expense.

I agree Lisarae. CPS is pathetic. DSHS (CPS is under DSHS) is monster that need to be completely torn apart and re-invented to be held accountable. For whatever reason, CPS does not do a good job at all.

CPS doesnt randomly show up for a one time call of bruises on a child. Either there is a prior history with CPS, promting the visit, or there have been recent and or ongoing calls of concern. I might add that CPS in Lewis County is a pathetic affair. My sister was reported 76 times for abuse, neglect, drug abuse, DV, and on, and on, and on. CPS responded 16 times. Her children were finally removed when her husband was being arrested for beating the crap out of her, and she attacked the cops for arresting him. On a good note, she never got her kids back, and never will, but this was not due to anything special done by CPS but the vigilance of our family.

My kid when he was younger was such a bruise magnet. I sent him to school one day with bruises and when the teacher asked to see me after school I was ready to get cuffed hh ha. She instead wanted to tell me about a new injury he got when he jumped off the swing while it was in the high spot.
CPS and PD should be able to differenitiate between cruising and brusing and bruises from a criminal act I hope.

@Galaxy – one thought about being the “gf’s kids and not their own” is because they are already losers and have left their own kids, and the gf is no better for thinking that the bf will treat her kids better than his own….

Another thought though (not necessarily directed at Galaxy, just in general) – what prompted the police and social worker there in the first place? Most kids have all sorts of bruising just from being kids – so what prompted the visit? I hope for the sake of all parents in LC and WA state that the visit was well-reasoned.

Ever seen a kid fall on the gravel on their bottom? Guess what, it can bruise. See a kid clash with a door jam? It’s pretty ugly. Fall off a step? …. Do it all in one week? Yup, seen it happen. Sometimes the kids (usually boys) will brag about their owies….

Overall, I do not agree with their situation anyways, but do know that not all boyfriends/step-dads/girlfriends/step-moms are bad to their “new” kids. There are also plenty of bad birth parents, as we’ve seen on this site – crying babies in the freezer, broken bones on newborns (which can also be due to the baby’s bone structure and not abuse, but that is very rare), etc. So I think that really it’s just a lot more people making bad choices.

I’m sure that there are some that read this site that think that having children is a detriment to society, but it’s the choices that people make at every moment that decide their own fate. Gen X was such a “now” generation, and Gen Y wants things to happen yesterday, and so it goes down the line.

However, this is a news site. Parents loving their children may someday become news, but until that sad day, the bad apples will be printed and cast an unfair shadow over all parents.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY is, sadly, a thing of the past.

What makes adults beat children? I get frustrated at my son at times, but not once have I ever thought about punching or hitting him! And why is it always their gf’s kids and not their own? None the less they are cowards for doing it! It makes me sick!
