The Fayetteville Observer in North Carolina reports a 22-year-old Ethel resident was killed yesterday during a live-fire training exercise at Fort Bragg.

James Groth, 22, died and seven other soldiers were hurt in the incident; the cause is under investigation, news reporter Gregory Phillips writes.

Fort Bragg officials report the soldiers in the 82nd Airborne Division’s 18th Fires Brigade’s 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment were conducting artillery training with an M777, towed howitzer early yesterday morning.
