CHEHALIS – A 13-year-old Winlock girl faces serious criminal charges after allegedly confessing she lit a fire that chased a sleeping neighbor family out of their residence.
The two adults and two small children escaped the double-wide mobile home on the 100 block of Evergreen Lane and arriving firefighters rescued a dog, but the January blaze caused extensive damage.
Some property was salvaged by the fire department.
The sheriff’s office yesterday forwarded a referral to the Lewis County Prosecutors Office for a charge of first-degree arson,
The information came to light last week when a deputy was talking with the girl on another matter, Chief Civil Deputy Stacy Brown said this morning. She allegedly admitted using matches to ignite a bamboo curtain that hung between the home and the garage, according to Brown.
Brown said the girl told the deputy she did it because she was angry, not at the neighbor but in general and didn’t mean to burn the home down but the fire got out of control and she ran off.
Nobody was injured but the structures were almost a total loss. The 60-year-old victim estimates damages of $104,000, Brown said.
It happened about 1:30 in the morning on Jan. 25. It took four fire departments more than an hour to bring the blaze under control.
Smoke detectors woke the occupants, the youngest of which were under two years old.

I just feel bad for her. 13 years old is such a tender age, and who knows what was going on in her life. She must’ve been in a lot of pain to be able to do something like that.
Bustybabe if you even know of the horrors that take place inside of some of them Juvenile Detention centers you would not even wish this upon her. it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that a thirteen year old girl who is out at 1:30 am obviously has bad parenting issues. I am not saying that it was right for her to torch the home. However, There are other ways to deal with this other than ruining the young girls life. So, STFU and jump off my back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @The senator whats up? You know me, i know you. We spent many times together at that very juvenile facility, we’ve had our up’s and down’s but im glad we remained freind’s through thick and thin,
This is very sad and I am glad that no one was hurt. There will always be fear in the hearts of the family in the home. I just wonder what a 13 year old girl is doing out at that time of the morning?
I feel sorry for the victim and also the Little girl. I have spent many years in the juvenile justice center. It sounds like her life is ruined.
Sounds like that kid needs her ass beat and to start working to pay the victims her wages.
Parenting at it’s finest displays it’s talents again.
13 year old using matches to channel her anger…..sounds like there is something going on her life that needs to be looked at. Luckily no one was hurt.
