News brief: Centralia real estate office hit with arson

Centralia police are investigating a fire that broke out last night at a real estate business on the 1000 block of Johnson Road.

After it was extinguished, it was determined someone had broken in to RE/Max and lit the fire, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Police Sgt. Jim Shannon said he understood the damage was fairly substantial.

Riverside Fire Authority reports it responded about 11 p.m. and located fire inside the building on the main floor and quickly extinguished it. The building sustained moderate fire and smoke damage, according to Capt. Terry Ternan.

It was just four weeks ago when someone set fire to a children’s medical clinic in Centralia.

Sorry, Charlie (too easy), but my wife and I own four rental houses so we’re the “oppressors,” not the “oppressed.” BTW, we price our rental rates below market so we can keep our good tenants.

I’m not saying ReMAX deserved to have an arsonist light them up. I know nothing about these guys but do you really think all realtors are of spotless character and all buyers understand what they’re getting into? This country is slowly coming out of a recession brought on in large part because a lot of people were buying houses than they could afford. Who sold them those houses?

    Thank you Charlie & Stephen.

  3. Steven says:

    I agree with Charlie!
BTW… theft and arson are crimes I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Where are these negative comments coming from? Who is the bad guy here? I’m thankful no one was hurt, sad that one of our local businesses has to struggle. I am glad the arson was caught before someone was hurt or another local business burned. I’m thankful RE/MAX is back at work helping clients get into homes. Maybe all you tossing out negative comment should think… How would you feel if this happened to you or a loved one, bet you’d be on the other side then, shouting loud!

I am reading the post, seems like you all are renters and are mad that you cannot buy a home. Sorry! All I have to say is your negative response says it all and you are where you are because of your choices so do not blame anyone, only YOU! Get your act together so you can be proud of yourself! If you respond in a negative way to this post then you should rent forever and flush your money down the toilet! Take care and make good choices. I will not respond to any post because I have said what I need to say.

I had dealings with Scott Horner out of that office several years ago and I think he is the biggest douche bag realtor in this county! That guy actually had the balls to change out the door locks on a house I was selling for a family member…before any exchange of money or acceptance of an offer! His excuse was that he didn’t want me (the seller) to remove things from the home…personal items belonging to me and my family!

  6. XDs says:

    Good grief,
I know you weren’t referring to the perpetrator.

My point was if the individuals who were allegedly being taken advantage of did not feel they were being taken advantage of then why worry? Everyone’s perception of value is different. They may have been fully aware of it and ok with it?

  7. GoodGrief says:

XD – silly person. I wasn’t referring to the perpetrator being mentally challenged. Read the comment again, dude.

  8. XDs says:

Arson or vandalism of any kind to a business is never deserved.

  9. GuiltyBystander says:

Pretty cold-blooded, man. Be glad nobody’s ever taken advantage of you…something like that can breed unwanted empathy.

  10. XDs says:

Who said they were mentally challenged?
If they agreed to the terms & conditions maybe they didn’t think they were being taken advantage of…???

  11. Sonya Keller says:

I work in this office and I can not believe what I am reading. How can anyone say what happened was deserved.

  12. GoodGrief says:

XD – so if vulnerable people get taken advantage of, it isn’t the fault of the person who took advantage?

So – if you are mentally challenged, I have a right to rip you off because you “allowed it to happen”? Wow. Nice values you have there.

I am not condoning the arson – we have laws and rules for a reason. Folks who are injured, financially or otherwise, need to get law and others involved, and hopefully someone who can document what happens so they CAN get help through the system. But sometimes, really bad thing happen to really good people, and the retribution isn’t up to us. Not in a society that wants to live by rules and laws.

  13. XDs says:

It is nobody’s fault than their own if they allowed it to happen.
If they or someone else felt it was fraud it should have been reported.

I worked for some folks a couple of years ago and they got a really bad deal from these folks at remax. It bordered on fraud in my book . The folks I worked for were vulnerable and they got took bad. They had a guy who came and fixed stuff that was in bad shape , like the plumbing , the electrical . I asked him how was it working for the Devil? He just mumbled. I’d have sued the crap out them. So I am not one bit surprised at this story, because every month I took those folks to pay their rent there I wanted to burn the place down.
