LONG ROAD FIRE

• Firefighters called to a report of smoke in the area of the 1200 block of Long Road in Centralia yesterday afternoon found a motorhome on fire and flames that were burning a portion of an adjacent garage. The fire climbed nearly 100 feet up nearby trees before it was extinguished, according to Riverside Fire Authority. Nobody was inside the approximately 20 foot long recreational vehicle, but a man, a woman and a child who were inside the duplex on the property were able to evacuate safely, the fire department reports. The cause of the 3:30 p.m. blaze is under investigation.

HAMILTON AVENUE FIRE

• A family was displaced by a kitchen fire that broke out yesterday evening at the 500 block of Hamilton Avenue in Centralia. The occupants were out in their yard when it was discovered and a relative with a garden hose put it out, according to Riverside Fire Authority. Firefighters responding to the 7:10 p.m. call made sure the fire hadn’t extended elsewhere in the structure, the fire department reports. The damage from flames was confined to the kitchen counter top and the cabinet and ceiling above, but there was water damage to the kitchen and dining room as well as smoke damage throughout the home, according to Capt. Scott Weinert. Nobody was hurt, the cause is being investigated, Weinert indicated.

INTERSTATE 5 WRECK

• Centralia police assisted troopers in investigating a multiple vehicle injury collision that involved a DUI early this morning on southbound Interstate 5 at the north end of Chehalis around 5:15 a.m. Further details were not readily available.
