CHEHALIS – A teenager hit by a truck on a county road in Adna after dark on Saturday night was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with severe injuries.

Firefighters called about 9:25 p.m. to the 600 block of Twin Oaks Road learned the girl had run out in front of a pickup truck traveling about 55 mph, according to the Chehalis Fire Department.

The 14-year-old Chehalis girl and her friends had been waiting at the end of a driveway for a taxi to take them to Chehalis, according to authorities.

As the taxi stopped, she ran behind it and into the lane of travel, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said the 61-year-old man from Pe Ell tried to stop, but wasn’t able to.

The girl was knocked forward probably 90 feet, but not run over, according to Fire Capt. Derrick Paul.

Responders treated her for head trauma , lacerations and internal injuries, Paul said. The fire captain said the impact left significant damage to the hood and grill of the Ford F250 pickup.

The patient was transported to the airport, where she was airlifted to the Seattle hospital, he said.
