The (Longview) Daily News reports the city of Castle Rock is requesting to be considered for a new 1000-bed prison facility the state Department of Corrections wants to build

DOC plans to construct a what it calls a new male reception center and would like to put it along the Interstate 5 corridor.

    I say build it… and then use it. The time to treat convicted felons like children is over. They commit the crimes, they can do the time. Make it hard time, too…. I’m sure the state could use a new gravel pit somewhere….

    the state wants to build a new faclility but yet they want to shut down another in grand mound because they cant afford it. does this make sence? revamp the one there

    This fear of inmates releasing into a community upon release is invalid . Several years ago DOC stipulated that when an inmate releases from prison they will return to their county of FIRST conviction. The goal is to elimate the problem stated. Upon release from supervision on completing their sentence, they can move where ever they please. Most inmates would prefer to release where their families live but with “county of first conviction” stipulation that often is not possible.
