A car carrying a pair of Bucoda women was destroyed in a crash this morning on southbound Interstate 5 near Castle Rock, according to the Washington State Patrol.

A 2009 Lexus driven by a 25-year-old Mercer Island woman had stopped in its lane because the lane was closed and the 1997 Saturn collided with its rear end, according to the state patrol.

Troopers were called to the scene near milepost 48 about 10:20 a.m.

The Saturn’s driver, Lavonne L. Nakano, 40, of Bucoda, suffered neck and back injuries and was taken to St. John Medical Center in Longview, the patrol reported. No injuries were described for her passenger, 57-year-old Linda R. Shaw.

The Lexus sustained an estimated $3,500 damage, but did not need to be towed, according to the patrol.
