MEDS STOLEN FROM SHOPPING CART

• Chehalis police were called just before 1 p.m. yesterday when a shopper said a male snatched prescription medications from her cart. Officers responding to the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue were told he got into a vehicle and fled. It was cold medicine, according to the Chehalis Police Department.

CAR PROWL

• Centralia police were called about 10:35 p.m. yesterday to the 700 block of West Sixth Street where an unknown person got inside an unlocked vehicle and rummaged around. Nothing initially appeared to be missing, according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Police were called to the 1200 block of Lum Road in Centralia about 1 p.m. yesterday where someone broke into a locked vehicle and stole a stereo and companion component. It looked as though the lock was “punched out,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

GARAGE PROWLER NOT LOCATED

• Morton police yesterday reported they didn’t find the individual who was prowling around inside a garage while the resident was home the night of Feb. 14 at the 800 block of West Main Avenue. An officer called about 9:30 p.m. that night was told that when the homeowner opened the garage door, the person fled the scene. Although the car door was left open, nothing appeared to be missing or damaged, according to the Morton Police Department.

COIN THEFT SUSPECT: ‘JUST BEING STUPID’

• Morton police arrested a 34-year-old Bonney Lake man for an incident from August in which someone tried to steal money from the coin machine at the Mossyrock Car Wash. An officer called on August 23 was shown where someone had drilled the key hole and also viewed surveillance images that showed a truck, and its license plate, pull up and a male get out and use a power tool on the padlock at 1:21 p.m. the day before, according to court documents. A Morton officer picked up the suspect on Friday as he was being released from the Pierce County Jail and the suspect allegedly admitted “he was just being stupid and that he needed gas money to get home,” charging documents state. Christopher McKee was booked into the Lewis County Jail and yesterday he was charged with attempted second-degree burglary. The judge allowed him release on a $5,000 unsecured bond. His arraignment is Thursday.

ON THE ROAD, OFF THE ROAD

• Morton police yesterday reported they are still investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian collision from the evening of Feb. 13 at the 100 block of State Street in Mossyrock.

  1. Free Air says:

I don’t think it was ever legal to ambush someone outside a garage who you thought might steal from you with lethal force.

  2. CrazyOldMan says:

@Motorboatin – Used to be legal in Lewis County until 2010.

Ronald Brady shot Thomas McKenzie who, with his wife, Johanna had come in the middle of the night to relieve Brady of some of his property in the house he was building (allegedly).

Old Ronald laid in wait and, sure enough, the McKenzie’s drove up in the middle of the night. Ronald opened his garage door and started blazing away with his .22. Lucky shot clipped the fleeing Thomas McKenzie in the aorta.

Sheriff Mansfield at the time said “Justifiable Self Defense”. And that would have been that, but McKenzie had some upstanding relatives in the Morton area who pursued the case until they got the DA to bring murder charges. Seems McKenzie had just been led astray by his young wife who was, allegedly, experienced and accomplished at that sort of thing.

A Lewis county jury didn’t buy the murder charge but sent Brady away for 6 years on manslaughter. I think he might be out on good behavior by now.

Bottom line is that you just can’t shoot thieves in Lewis County legally anymore. If you could, perhaps knowing that they had a high risk of a violent death, while trying to steal your air compressor might inhibit their behavior. It’s just better to have good insurance.

  3. To Be Orr Not To Be says:

MOTORBOATIN, if the undesirables you mentioned were killed, it might decrease the number of property crimes, but the number of murders would go up.

And then we have Brittney Smith who’s only contribution to the world is adolescent name-calling from the safe space in front of her computer. She places herself in an unflattering light and, at the same time, wants us to believe that someone else is the idiot.

Pea body slim is absolutely right. However, I don’t think any of you hyperventilation-prone sissies could ever let go of your illogical hatred of chemicals and people who use them. If the use of drugs is ever treated like normal human behavior then a lot of bigots are going to lose their favorite group of people to heap abuse on AND they’re going to lose convenient excuses to justify their own bad behavior.

So as long as it’s still ok to blame your problems on drugs and openly heap verbal abuse on certain human beings for no logical reason, the people of Lewis County will sleep soundly at night. Don’t take away their rights to be openly bigoted or their right to blame their behavior on inanimate objects because they might just have to act like humans for once.

  4. scum.... says:

If you act like a uncivilized welfare turd, off to prison!!! I don’t know about you,but I’ve had a knife plunged into my chest before, and it fkn hurts!!! This is America!! Not some Mexico shit hole , well not yet ! But this town is definitely got more low lifes , than normal people..nice town………sarcasm…..

  5. Brittney Smith says:

    Pea Body- your an idiot

  6. MOTORBOATIN says:

Property crimes would also fall if we just killed thieves, rapists, & druggies…. should we try that too?

  7. Pea body slim says:

Prescription meds stolen. The whole war on drugs is a failure. The Opium Aka known as the poppy plant should be legal. Acetimetophen kills more people each year than opiod overdoes. Alcohol is being advertised on television and claims countless lives each year. Yet a opiate pill that causes well being and constipation is not allowed without a prescription. Wake up legalize and watch property crimes fall and the need for the police state will fall along side it. People are driving on pills and drugs as we speak. So get over it….
