CHEHALIS – A standoff with a 61-year-old man continued over several hours last night, after he allegedly shoved his live-in girlfriend and then twice fired multiple rounds at his home outside of Mossyrock.

Law enforcement officers eventually deployed pepper spray munitions into the house as well as other diversionary devices and SWAT members entered and took him into custody, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

James C. Long was booked into the Lewis County Jail around 7 o’clock this morning for several offenses.

It happened at the 100 block of Naylor Road, southeast of Mossyrock.

Deputies called about 8:20 p.m. were told of a family dispute in which he and his 52-year-old girlfriend had been arguing about a heater malfunctioning, according to Cmdr. Dusty Breen.

She said she heard him acting strangely in another room and a short time later, found him with her revolver, according to Breen. When she tried to get the gun from him, she was reportedly pushed.

The frightened woman and her mother decided to flee the home and as they did, they heard Long fire multiple rounds.

Breen said deputies were told she went back to see if Long harmed himself, and he hadn’t, and for some reason the 73-year-old mother went back inside the home. The girlfriend called 911 from a neighbor’s.

When deputies arrived, there was a short dialogue with Long, who then fired multiple rounds out of the house, according to Breen. He then told deputies to come and get him, Breen said.

Breen didn’t say where Long was aiming with the gunfire, but noted nobody was struck and deputies fired no shots.

Additional personnel were summoned, including Lewis County Regional SWAT members.

Breen said officers were able to get the 73 year old mother to come to the front door and then rush her to safety.

Lewis County Fire District 3 was put on standby.

“The standoff with Long continued over several hours and he did not comply with negotiators to come out of the residence,” Breen wrote in an email.

Eventually, after Long was apprehended, he was escorted to the waiting firefighters and then transported to Morton General Hospital to be evaluated.

He was arrested and booked for fourth-degree assault, reckless endangerment, third-degree malicious mischief and a violation of the firearms sales and transfers law for taking his girlfriend’s gun, according to Breen.

    Mr. Rupert,

Your relationship with God is not your business, at least not according to Jesus in John 13:35 when he told his disciples: “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”. Of course there are many more that support accountability among believers. You made a very public confession of your faith….now,Luke 3:8 “Produce fruit in keeping with your repentance.” In other words prove to others that you are who you say you are. Our faith in Christ is the business of the world, if we proclaim it to the world….you did.

Bo, I like you. You have gifts and talents that not all posses. Do something with them for God, not yourself or out of hatred. Only works done in love have any real value. Oh, and by the way according to numerous scriptures we are to hold each other accountable….I have listed a few: Ephesians 4:25, Hebrews 10:25, Col 3:16 and Hebrews 3: 12-13.

Don’t be a sail without wind or smoke without fire.

Yep Bo, I see you for who you are, I see the kindness and concern in your Heart. If we put these people that attack us under a Microscope we would see the awful Skeletons in their closet too. People often act as if their Saints when their just mortal men.You and I Bo are special we have been in the Dark so we know how to show people the light. I an not without sin no man is, but knowing evil lets me know good. I appreciate the fact you use your real name. i myself dont need to since my comments are my singnature, everyone knows who I am. My Ideas are so blatent it brings out the hate in the Trolls that attack us. Never let these haters get to you Bo. We are original and thats what is a threat to these people that attack us. When I see you Bo I dont see your criminal charges created by mans law. I see a child of God. and a mistake of sin that all Gods children do. Attacking Bo is laughable who cares if he made a mistake we all have. Give it a rest. He has every right to cast his two cents on this page. He made a mistake big deal. He served his time payed his debt a moved on to a better person. The people thatcattack him need to look in the mirror. Get over it. Bo a pioneer of my qualitys that most of you will never have…..

My relationship with God, is my business. I see yours isnt all so great judging your neighbor and all. You just don’t like it because I tell it like it is. So you attack me because you can’t attack my message

    Mr. Rupert,

What happened to your conversion to Christianity? I thought you were changing your ways and going on the straight and narrow. It appears that your commitment to being committed was weak and unable to withstand your natural inclination to mean spirited verbal abuse of others. Your gifts are being wasted on anger and rage. Hope you make it.

  5. Bo Rupert says:

wow, thank god the incompetent fools didn’t kill him for once.

How do you hear someone acting strangely? Impossible. Tried to wrestle a gun out of his hand after a argument over a heater. Why? Let him have it. If your scared then leave. G.I. Jane lost that battle for the gun and got pushed. Sounds like she initiated the domestic violence possibly had the gun to begin with since it is her gun if not she should have kept her gun in a safe place,… not in a common area of his home. Her story is not adding up.

  8. pudgie bear says:

I say arrest them all for domestic violence, including the mother. Women get away with DV by making up lies and or embellishing stories to eager detectives. As for egging the swat on? Are you a moron? Discharging a weapon during a armed confrontation with police? Did u expect them to get scared and run away? You drunk or druggin it? Lucky they didnt put you down. This is what happens when you have mandatory DV arrest policies. Wounded ducks can become bombs. Meanwhile the DV reporters have a the run of your home, valuables and your belongings. You often times cant go back to the home when you post bail but are stuck with power and rent payments. Sherrif should arrest them all and evict the DV reporters. That will teach them and cut down on DV 911 calls. As for stealing your stuff? Report it but I dont believe anything will be done. Where is the justice? They say lewis county is a hot bed for DV? Its because reporting DV overly encouraged and you get really screwed by theft and loss of your home even if it is false. Watch out for unemployed power trippin women and their mothers!! If your girl is doing you wrong GET OUT!! Protections orders are your friend,… but unfortunately people only figure out how effective and what they really are when they are served with one. Hot bed? Only because you pour gas on the fire.

Yes good job… they did not shoot and kill the guy.. It goes to show that the job can be done with out the cop using their guns… some of the time… Good job.
