CHEHALIS – The Yakima Herald-Republic reports a 76-year-old Lewis County resident has been charged with second-degree unlawful hunting of big game in connection with allegedly shooting the biggest bull elk in the Kittitas Valley near Ellensburg, in a location closed to such hunting and moving it to a private field where it would have been legal.

News reporter Scott Sandsberry writes that Tod Reichert, 76, of Salkum, has a pre-trial hearing in Lower Kittitas District Court on May 31, despite his Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife’s special eastside elk auction tag for which he paid $75,000.

Many people enjoyed interacting with this animal, old and young, alike. Children learned about wildlife, and tourist enjoyed taking pictures of a beautiful animal. Towns people enjoyed this animal, too, with the notoriety. So many people gained pleasure from knowing this animal. Yet, a pompous individual… one person…stole this “enjoyment” from so many, as a means to fulfill his own, selfish need. How shameful. How sad.

Harvesting a tame animal is not hunting!!
It is like shooting your farm animal.
To the root of the act, knowing this; it is selfish and
Not a something to proud of, a true sportsman would
Never do this…a true sportsman goes
To the wilderness, stalks his prey, and does not harvest, in an area harbouring tame animals. No respect for this knucklehead, and if you want a hunt, get farther than 50ft from your car, and use a weapon that shoots less a 300 ft …

I hope karma comes calling in his life. What is the need for a trophy?, ridiculous and selfish! I guess he considers going out killing innocent wildlife fun, so much fun that he needs to have the dead poor animal hanging on his wall, bloody walls and person. That the animals are on earth does not mean that they don’t have a right to their lives and function in their environment, and there come big bully with high powered rifles and does away with it.
I was going to vote for Trump, but if this is what he represents to many, based on some of the comments, I rather not vote, I would never vote for Hillary, but for this idiocy and selfishness neither.

If you think it’s ok to shoot an Elk in an area that is off limits and is considered a pet by the community, well how about I come over and shoot your dog in your yard.

  6. Redneck says:

Ya, it’s the same folks that bitch about the elk com…

It’s just a elk, a wild animal, pets are herfords, Holstein, Angus etc, maybe the warden that gave Tod permission should be prosecuted??? Don’t believe everything you read dummys….

  7. CrazyOldMan says:

In Packwood most of the residents are disgusted with the “town hunters” who arrive at the start of the bow season and shoot all of the tame bulls in town.

If you are just interested in the meat, I suppose you can justify shooting a tame animal but if you are a sportsman, I don’t see how you can hang that trophy on the wall knowing that it was a tame animal that you just walked up to and murdered, while all of the true sportsmen had passed on shooting it.

  12. K. Riecert says:

Bo Rupert just STFU already. You’re a disgusting person, your constant comments are here make that clear.

  13. Bo Rupert says:

It sounds like a bunch of environmentalist liberals whining over an elk. It’s not like this man hasn’t paid good money to do the hunting he does. God put these animals here to be eaten by humans. What a bunch of whiners. Best of Luck to you Mr. Reichert, I hope you pound them to the floor in court.

Is this the Tod Reichert that owns the lumber mill in Toledo? It’s. A sad story either ways but he is a really cool guy, my old man worked for him for 20 years, kept him on even w hen his health was failing.
