CHEHALIS – A woman pushing a stroller along a county road south of Chehalis was hit from behind by a car traveling about 30 mph yesterday.

Deputies responding to the approximately 6 p.m. incident learned the stroller was overturned and damaged but the 8-month-old baby was unharmed. The 49-year-old grandmother sustained a broken leg, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened along Avery Road East near Coulson Road.

The grandmother said she was walking westbound, pushing the baby while talking on the cell phone and thought she was on the shoulder, Cmdr. Dusty Breen said. Evidence however showed impact occurred in the travel portion of the lane, Breen said.

The male half of a Chehalis couple in their early 70s said he did not see them until he hit them, Breen said. Their car is a 2012 Suzuki four-door, according to the sheriff’s office.

The grandmother also has a possible broken toe. She and the child reside in Chehalis.

Breen said the case remains under investigation and no citations or infractions have been issued.

Some day you will be elderly, if you make it. Just remember all this when your age catches up with you. Apparently the woman pushing the stroller was the grandmother.

So it is all the driver’s fault? Not the woman pushing the stroller on the cell not paying attention. Yikes.

Well if the sun blinds you it’s called driving too fast for Conditions. Conditions change drivers must adapt instead they push forward without proper eyewear and visors. I see it everyday in our Driving War Zones. I’f you’re not on too of you’re game this is what happens. No Drug tests for drivers on Percocet for that hip pain Etc.. Benafit of the doubt for the elderly selective policing at it’s Finest…. Or maybe I’m Wrong but with no test we can’t be sure…

Sad that people have to Believe the worst about people. I was there you were not. The sun blinded me where I could not see anything in front of my face so I am sure they did not see that woman walking in the middle-of-the-road. The elderly couple were devastated! Before you judge people find out the facts. We do have a law for pedestrians . And the woman walking did not obey them

No drug test for the Elderly Person? What a free pass for DUI?

  6. Sherman says:

Always walk on the left side of the road facing traffic. Regardless of whose fault it is, the pedestrian always loses.

They will give a license to anybody these days. They value car tab and licensing fees over the lives of innocent women and children.

I would be surprised that the cops would issue a blood test to the elderly driver. However, I would not be surprised if it came up positive for a pharmaceutical cocktail of epic proportions if they did.

While the cops are out chasing people who use drugs without a prescription, grandma and grandpa are out free-wheeling and hot-rodding high on god-knows-what kind of prescribed dope.

Next time they’ll kill someone and they’ll still be allowed to drive away.

Can you imagine? Even walking on a cell phone people can be stupid. Luckily the child was not inured or killed.
