Hit and run charged after man ‘launched’ into the air by truck

CHEHALIS – While police arrested a 19-year-old Rochester resident for second-degree assault after he reportedly struck a pedestrian early yesterday morning at Taco Bell in Centralia, prosecutors today filed a charge instead of hit and run.

Hit and run is a class C felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Officers were called just before 2 a.m. yesterday to the 1100 block of Belmont Avenue and stated later in the morning their investigation showed Chase A. Deguise intentionally struck a male with his truck. The Centralia Police Department continued to investigate.

Deguise was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

Lewis County prosecutors wrote in court documents today that numerous witnesses were questioned and it appeared there was a dispute between Deguise and Kyle R. E. Morrison.

“During the dispute, Deguise drove his truck through the parking lot and struck Mr. Morrison, launching him in the air,” Lewis County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Will Halstead wrote.

Morrison was found laying on the ground and was transported to the hospital with a laceration and bruising and may have a severe back injury, according to Halstead.

Deguise had driven home and didn’t contact law enforcement, charging documents state.

When he was contacted and questioned, he reportedly admitted knowing he’d hit the victim, according to Halstead.

Neither charging documents nor police gave any detail about the disagreement between the two.

Lewis County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sara Beigh told a judge this afternoon when bail was addressed the defendant has no criminal convictions in his past, but does have two cases currently in municipal court.

Defense attorney Joely O’Rourke indicated Deguise grew up in Chehalis, lives with his grandparents in Rochester, is going to school and in the process of getting a job.

Lewis County Superior Court Judge Nelson Hunt set his bail at $5,000. An arraignment was scheduled for Thursday.

Maybe he should have ‘chase’d him in disguise? Lol

Hmmmm, no guns huh, that erases that excuse. But over a girl, REALLY! This punk runs over a guy, leaving him for dead in a parking lot over a girl. Geez I hope this isn’t true or both these guys, Kyle and Chase, can just step on up and receive your award for being complete idiots. One knot head on the mend the other headed for jail and probably prison, over a girl. Retards.

  4. Leo Morrison says:

Kyle has no guns and he`s to much a pussy to jump anyone more than likely this was over a girl and she chose Kyle yes Kyle has some tickets but nothing serious, I`m sorry Chase made a bad decision and ran down Kyle lucky he didn`t kill him or he would be in prison for at least 20 years.

  7. james deguise says:

yep mr johnson you ever tried get a job lately they require a drug test so think what you want really dont care i have the report so you was wrong have a good sir

  8. Don Johnson says:

Drug deal gone bad is what I am thinking. Meth. No one is forced to take “Many drug tests” unless they are in a court ordered program. Face it folks, this is a drug deal gone bad, and someone is in the hospital because of it. The suspects family should be glad that the victim is expected to survive, hit and run is one thing (an act of pure cowardice) but manslaughter is another.

  9. james deguise says:

yeah mr don johnson chase is clean and has passed many drug test and you are right drugs were involved but only on the other side this i know for a fact it hard to turn the other way when to guy jumps in front of you and you are scared he has a gun think about that you try ok

  11. james deguise says:

yeah peabody slim is right taco bell should have camera they tell the truth but the witnesses were all friends so we will see and cpd are a big bunch of clowns if you need one you can find them at starbuck there always alot there

  12. BleeBloo says:

He’s innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but I have to wonder what kind of person would hit a man with his truck and then just drive away like nothing happened.

  13. Peabody Slim says:

Oh the kid who got ran over had a Gun? Well was the gun found. Were there witnesses or a dash cam video? If this is true about the gun the running over the allegged victicm could be justified. Or it might be just more Cannon Fodder for the masses. Better get a real investigator on the case instead of the CPD Kangaroo Police Department. Just ask the community they know about CPD

  14. Don Johnson says:

Sorry grandpa, there is no way Chase is a victim. Most anyone with any brains drives the OTHER WAY when confronted with a gun threat, no not him, not our Chase, he runs the guy down. There is more to this, I am thinking Meth or Heroin must play a part in this.

  15. james deguise says:

he is not a punk and he was ambushed so get the facts straight your shut your mouth you know who i mean if you have something to say say it to my face or shut up the kid had a gun

  16. james deguise says:

to sheila deguise i am his gradfather and your comment are as ass in nine as they come get so think twice before opening your rude mouth if you have si=ometing to say say it to our face or shut up

  17. adminsharyn says:

Actually Don Johnson, i would think the prosecutor on the case is better at digging up whatever this defendant’s criminal history might be,, than just “anyone with a computer” … she stated for the record in court that he has no criminal convictions in his past, but does have two cases currently in municipal court … if you are using the Washington Courts website to get a sense of this person’s interactions with the law, consider there can be more than one person with the same name, and also, cases show up that involve the courts but may not be criminal … traffic tickets, petitioner for protection order or other civil issue … and so on

This a a very sad and terrible incident but, please know that this is NOT our Chase Deguise.

Another relative with their head buried in the sand. Anyone with a computer can look up this person, Chase A Deguise, and see that starting in 2014 he began having interaction with police. Six times since 2014 there is record of this punk being a defendant in Thurston and Mason County courts and Chehalis and Lakewood Municipal courts. This idiot has finally done something to land his ass in prison. Hopefully he gets himself together before he kills someone. Start worrying now Chase, prison is NOT like county lockup.

    WTH!!!!!

  20. Peabody Slim says:

Cars hurt and kill more people than guns do. Well neither car or guns kill it’s the human nut cases that cause death and injury. But Political types are trying to blame guns, heres another example if someone is going to hurt someone they don’t care what they use. Sorry to hear the victim was severly injured back problems will end up making the victim a pill addict from his injurys. Sad but true these are the in and outs of bodily injury. As for the suspect in this horrific crime, you belong behind those bars where you put yourself.
