News brief: Centralia home catches fire, two hospitalized

CHEHALIS – Two people were taken to Providence Centralia Hospital this morning after a house fire on the 800 block of J Street in Centralia.

Firefighters called at 6:45 a.m. arrived to find smoke issuing from the house and then flames in the living area of the home, according to Riverside Fire Authority.

Two individuals had escaped prior to the crew’s arrival and were transported by ambulance to to be evaluated for possible smoke inhalation injuries, according to Chief Mike Kytta.

The home has extensive smoke damage throughout and two rooms were heavily burned, according to Kytta. The fire’s cause remains under investigation.

The occupants were displaced due to the fire and are receiving assistance from our local American Red Cross representatives, according to Riverside Fire Authority.
