Truck stop heist: Microsoft cargo spirited away

CHEHALIS – A semi truck and trailer loaded with Microsoft products was stolen from a Napavine truck stop along Interstate 5 last night.

The good news is it was found a few miles away about 20 minutes later. The bad news is, it was minus its load, according to authorities.

Napavine Police Department Chief Chris Salyers said he doesn’t yet have a dollar amount for the lost merchandise.

The driver called from Love’s Travel Stop on the 1200 block of Rush Road, where he had parked his big rig, according to authorities.

“He went inside to take a shower, came out and it was gone,” Salyers said.

It seemed as though the thief or thieves used a slim jim to get inside, he said.

While law enforcement was looking for the stolen truck, a citizen called 911 to report suspicious activity at Mary’s Corner, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

They observed two tractor trailers plus a gold or tan pickup truck arrive to a parking lot, saw several males in the back of a trailer and then watched one of the semis take off at a high rate of speed, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said.

The parking lot sits near the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 and Jackson Highway.

When officers arrived just after 10:15 p.m., they found the missing truck, but without its cargo, Breen said.

The truck is owned and operated by Ancor Transport Ltd out of British Columbia, according to Breen.

They said it was the second time an Ancor truck had been jacked with Microsoft products, Breen said.

The description of the second semi was a greenish Peterbilt with a sleeper and a refrigerated semi-trailer, according to the sheriff’s office.

Salyers said Microsoft wanted the found truck impounded, but no local tow company had enough space to keep it, so it was turned over to the driver.

Breen asks that anyone who has any information on the incident to please call the sheriff’s office.

thats kinda of funny a technology company cant even track their own products,…. its called lo-jack bitches. A GPS transponder? THE IRONY. Should put on it every load. what about all those hi-res cameras along I-5 did they catch anyone? Or are those just there to scare people.

Freethinker… Although the semi maybe running doesn’t mean that it’s unlocked, most drivers have a 2nd set of keys and there are plenty of trucks that have auto start and shutdown, which is for a reason…to keep the driver warm while sleeping. So before making judgements about semidrivers ask some questions and do some research.

The article indicated that this was the 2nd time for a Micro Soft shipment to be hijacked from this trucking company. It also stated something to the effect that the big rig was unable to be impounded because if it’s size. Indicating to release it back to the driver. Need for HEAVY INVESTIGATION of both driver and trucking company! Looks loosey goosey to me.

    @freethinker –
Most engine wear occurs at startup when oil pressure is low and internal parts are not yet well lubed. Startup is hard on an engine. Idling is not.
Also, thermal cycling is hard on engines, less wear occurs when internal temps are steady versus when there are frequent warm up/cool down cycles.

Use of a CDL for the commission of a felony results in not just arrest and prosecution of the driver – if caught. It also results in a life time ban from ever being able to possess a CDL in the future. So, given the grave consequences of losing one’s vocation for life. Someone must of felt the reward was enough to mitigate against the risk of being apprehended .

Slim Jim my ass. Have you noticed that truck drivers and rednecks with diesel pickups always leave them running for excessive periods of time. Yesterday I saw a log truck parked at a restaurant running with the driver door open while the drive was inside eating. Turn your noisey diesel engine off, no one is impressed by it.

The thieves knew right where to strike. Napavine PD is such a joke. The thieves know that there is no way the crime will ever be solved.

  10. Ed Lane says:

Sounds like someone knew what the cargo was.

A well planned heist with inside help involved, better start looking at the driver or their relatives or business associates, this was not a spur of the moment robbery-hope they call in more that the local law enforcement to investigate
