News brief: Sheriff’s Office investigates gunshot injury

CHEHALIS – A 23-year-old man was shot as his friend was reloading his firearm after the two practiced their draws for about 20 minutes with unloaded weapons over the weekend in rural Chehalis, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies called to the 700 block of Deep Creek Road north of Adna about 9:20 p.m. on Saturday spoke to both males and the victim’s girlfriend.

The 23-year-old victim had been taken to Providence Centralia Hospital by personal vehicle and was the airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to the sheriff’s office. Chief Deputy Dusty Breen said he suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right chest.

The names of the victim and the 21-year-old Chehalis man involved were not released. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
