A 15 yr old girl possibly being charged with drug paraphernalia, being kicked out of school for the rest of the year. Why in the world did the school not refer her for evaluation, require her to comply with the recommendations, use that as leverage for the rest of the year then help the parents keep tight control with that as a possisbility hanging over their head. Now you have a kid hanging out, not going to school, bored to death, not getting any treatment, spending justice system dollars (much costlier than treatment dollars), parents tying to figure out what the to do, and my bet is you have lost another kid from school completely, marijuana (and perhaps other drug) use will increase. Or perhaps not wanting to be arrested, using alcohol. When will we get smarter with our method of “sending a message” to kids. They know the dril when we do that sort of stuff.
