Read about defense says Steven Moulton is unfit to stand trial …

By Sharyn  L. Decker

The (Longview) Daily News reports that a psychologist’s report on 22-year-old Steven Moulton of Morton says he mentally retarded and unfit to stand trial.

Moulton is being held in the Cowlitz County Jail, charged with attacking an  8-year-old boy in a ballpark restroom in Castle Rock in July.

He also has a pending case in Lewis County from last summer when he was found inside a park bathroom stall in Morton with an 8-year-old boy.

A judge won’t decide until next month if he is competent for trial in Cowlitz County.

Strong mom: please get ahold of me! We would like to offer your family support thru this mess. We r an organization all to familiar with this family. My number is 3604966065 thanks!

  2. George says:

I agree, Grandfather… I raised my children that way as well, same as I was raised. I was also held accountable for my actions, which apparently this family refuses to do.

Hey Strong mom……..Steve Moulton was my next door neighbor for 3 years!! Find me on Facebook…..Lisa Ingraham Mitchell~

  4. Strong Mom says:

Lisa, I am the mother of one of the victims. What has happened to our children is far from acceptable regardless of a persons mental status. I give my word that I will fight to prevent anymore children from becoming victims and to get justice for my son and the others by contacting our legislators and getting laws changed. I have read so many posts by people who have firsthand knowledge of Steven and his behaviors and it sickens me that our system has continued to fail while protecting an “alleged” predator. I am doing all I can to support the prosecutors, will you do the same? Call, email, write a letter to the prosecutors for Lewis, Cowlitz and Thurston counties
(primarily cowlitz since that is where he is currently incarcerated). Maybe if the communities share their experiences it can somehow help get justice for my son and the others. Thank you

George, If I had a child with anything like this man’s problems, I would feel the need to ensure that he wouldn’t be able to cause pain and grief to others in society (especially children). But, then, unlike this family, I am an adult who has taken responsibility for the proper raising of my family.

The defense’s own psychologist’s report is apparently admitting to ANOTHER (THE 4TH) attack in summer of 2009. A police report is proving difficult to locate, but the defense appears to be admitting to it.

  7. George says:

“But he is unable to control himself or his actions, due to his mental incompetence, and is therefore not to be held accountable for his actions…. besides, would you want YOUR child locked away for being mentally deficient?”

Sadly, you hear that sort of thing far too often, and the person it refers to is once more not held accountable for their actions. They always say “he doesn’t know what he is doing”, when truth be told, he knows EXACTLY what he is doing.

It’s a shame that he can’t be put someplace where he isn’t hurting others, but in a state that views gangs as nothing more than misguided children, and is extremely soft on crime, things like this will continue.

Hopefully, the justice system will see that, and ensure that this person is not permitted to roam free where he can hurt other young people.

  8. A Grandfather says:

If you read the referenced article from The Daily News, it would appear that they are reporting that the psychologist’s report is referencing ANOTHER attack of a 9 year old boy in a tent in Morton by the Tilton river in the summer of 2009. No police report has been discovered about this, yet! While there appears to be no police record of it, this would seem to be at least the 4th known attack. Mind you, this is coming from the DEFENSE’S own report.

  9. A Grandfather says:

In my considered opinion this man has been “enabled” for far too long by a family who has known of his sickness, all too well.
What will it take to give the victims and their families Justice. And society needs it’s peace and security restored (at least as far as this predator is concerned).

  10. A Grandfather says:

Keep in mind, it appears that as one attack is revealed, another is waiting to be revealed not long after. There is almost certainly many more that has been covered up, or kept quiet by family, friends, and others (possibly even law enforcement). How many children has been traumatized by this predator and the family is not aware of the attack even happening?

  11. A Grandfather says:

Does anyone actually believe that a DEFENSE attorney would pay a PRIVATE psychologist (who has a history of testifying in legal cases for the defendants?) for a report that would contain anything but what he needed it to say?

I quote from The (Longview) Daily News report By Tony Lystra / The Daily News | Posted: Monday, August 29, 2011 8:30 pm

“Brett C. Trowbridge, a psychologist hired by Moulton’s defense lawyer”.

And, Does anyone actually believe that this “man” was not educated by (someone?) on how to appear to any psychologist to be incompetent?

  12. Lisa Mitchell says:

Mental incompetency should not be a get out of jail free card. Steve Moulton has alledgedly attacked 3 innocent little boys, causing potentially long term, devastating effects on them and their families. How many attacks have occured that have not been reported, or Moulton identified? This madness has got to stop! Will his mental capacity, or lack of allow him to remain a free to do as he pleases? If he is not capable of standing trial, which I do not believe, then fine. He needs to be incarcerated in a mental health facility. He is a dangerous, and unaccountable, risk to the children of ANY community. At what point do the rights of victims, or potential victims matter? Law enforcement is in place to ensure the safety of all citizens. Prevention is part of that process, and this has got to be recognized!
