The (Longview) Daily News reports a judge has found Steven Moulton incompetent to stand trial and he will be sent to Western State Hospital while authorities determine if he should be civilly committed.

News reporter Tony Lystra writes the judge found 22-year-old Moulton is developmentally disabled but a danger if he is freed.

Steven Moulton has been being held in the Cowlitz County Jail, charged with attacking an  8-year-old boy in a ballpark restroom in Castle Rock in July.

He also has a pending case in Lewis County from last summer when he was found inside a park bathroom stall in Morton with an 8-year-old boy.

  1. REALLY says:

REALLY ?? Why would he CHOOSE to inflict the pain on sombody else?? Are you serious? What part of mentally handicap do you not understand? His thought process doesn’t work like that. He still has the mind of a child. A very small child. If this happened to him then he would think it was ok. While I agree he does need to be at a secure mental facility I believe jail is not the place for him.

While I’m sorry for any person living in an abusive relationship, I feel some have chosen to stand by the ones who abuse their own. I don’t think there is any doubt Steve
Has had a rough life, bit how does that give him the on to hurt another? While I feel saddened at the thought of Steven being abused previously, I wonder why he would choose to inflict that pain on another child. I think he fed needs help! And i feel confident he will now get the help he needs

  3. Mom says:

Bustybabe, I have also heard that this is more likely a case where Steven was abused himself, it does not excuse what he has done and it does not mean he is not dangerous. As far as his mother and other family members are concerned, they are rude, inconsiderate and have no sympathy for the young, innocent victims. I can guarantee if your child had been attacked in this manner you would want nothing less than to have the offender removed from society forever.

IF YOU ALL HAVE BEEN READING MY PREVIOUS RESPONSES TO THIS CASE,YOU KNOW HOW I HAVE FELT,,UNTIL I MET A LADY THAT I RESPECT AND ADMIRE ALOT,SHE HAS THE STRENGTH OF A MILLION WOMEN AND THE HEART OF AN ANGEL,,SHE IS STEVENS MOM,, SHE WORKS NEARBY ME,AND WITHOUT KNOWING WHO SHE WAS ONE DAY,I OPENEED MY MOUTH ABOUT THE CASE UNTIL SOMEONE TOLD ME WHO SHE WAS,,,,WELL I HAVE TALKED TO HER ALOT AND KNOW STEVEN IS MENTALLY RETARDED,THOUGH I STILL AGREE ,HE NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS,,,HE WAS ALSO TAUGHT THIS BEHAVIOR BY SOMEONE,,AND I BELIEVE THE PERSON WHO DID THIS TO HIM ,IS NO LONGER ALIVE,,SO WITH ALL THAT SAID,I WANT PEOPLE TO HEAR BOTH SIDES,OR JUST HEAR A MOTHERS SIDE,,,BEFORE JUDGING.THANK YOU

  5. Vicki says:

If he has a crime pending, he won’t be released due to budget cuts.

  6. George says:

Thank you, Jennifer, for clearing that up. Let’s hope that he isn’t just swept under the rug (so to speak) and is able to be brought before the courts to face his charges….

  7. jennifer says:

actually, i was at the hearing. anad they way they did it, he will be sent to western state for 180 days. after that time, western state can then say he is competent and he can be charged. if they do not, the prosecutor can ask for another 180. and this can continue until one of three things happen:
    1. he is found competent and returns to face the charges
    2. western state releases him due to budget cuts
    3. he dies.

so, i think this is a better outcome then prison time for the moment.

  8. George says:

In other words, the judge doesn’t want to hold this person accountable for what they have done. Nice.
