CHEHALIS – The 15-year-old Morton boy arrested last week after allegedly stabbing his mother will remain locked up as his case proceeds, a judge ordered yesterday.
The teen was taken to the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center in Chehalis following the incident at the family home on April 14.
He appeared before a judge yesterday morning for his arraignment, in the same building in Lewis County Juvenile Court. He is charged with second-degree assault.
His only words spoken during the short hearing were “Yes, your honor” and “not guilty”.
The boy is represented by Centralia attorney David Brown. Lewis County Deputy Prosecutor Kevin Nelson is handling the case.
According to charging documents, the teen and his mother argued when he wanted to walk his girlfriend home from school, he overheard his mother laughing about him and he told police he’d had enough.
The documents describe wounds on the mother’s arm, leg and chest, as well as a knife about 14 inches long.
Rhiannon Foister, 35, was released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle last Wednesday and is home recovering, Morton Police Department Police Chief Dan Mortensen indicated earlier this week.
Brown said the next steps for him are investigating the case.
The offense carries a possible penalty of 15 to 36 weeks of incarceration, Brown said.
A fact finding hearing, similar to a trial, Brown said, is scheduled for May 20.

Most here have noted he needed AND WAS NOT GIVEN mental health medication.
Don’t ANY of you understand that folks who have thinking disorders and go unmedicated cannot MAKE good decisions? Because if they could, they probably wouldn’t be mentally ill…
And if he was in his right mind, he probably would have coping skills to walk away from an abusive, mother… don’t know where he would LEARN those from, since it sounds like both parents ALSO have mental issues and drug use.
But without any good models, a broken mind and emotional issues… of COURSE he “should” be making great decisions. All that mental illness stuff is just hokem and bunk, right? It doesn’t mean you can’t think right…
Sometimes, I think the posters here might need to have an assessment or three….
Everyone is right there is no excuse for physical harm. He deserves to be in jail and serve for his crime. There he has a chance to hopefully turn his life around. It is standard practice to claim Not Guilty unless a plea bargain has been put into place. He knows what he did was deplorable. He knows he deserves to serve his time. He was just following orders of his Lawyer. Hopefully his mother will get a wake up call of sorts as well. Unfortunately that may not be the case.

You who jump to say guilty do not know his life and what he has been put through. Do not jump to conclusions without all the facts!! He has lived in a hell created not only by himself. Walk a lifetime in his shoes and then you make the choice. He didn’t run or hide from the police, and she did tell him to stab her….more than once.
Bustybabe is right on the money, this punk should be tried as an adult and pay the consequences for his actions, no excuses. He’s real lucky that his mom survived this attack. Maybe doing some time in adult prison might teach him some boundaries and respect.
